Can't quite agree with that, Jiffy. A good pic will always be a good pic, whenever it was taken and if it meets the criteria etc etc.

Good morning @David K my friend this guideline was included in our "Monthly Photo Comp"
and by the title is self explanatory, its been like it for at least 10 years now ,the photo comp belongs to the member's ,and has seen many changes over the years ,when the members have requested the changes, but the current month guideline as never been one of them;)

I sincerely hope that you continue to take part in our photo comp as it needs all the support it can get, it has only lasted this long b thanks to all the support and number of entries from the GC members:smile:

          Hi, Wiseowl
Thank you for clarifying the photo comp rules, although I still think that the insistence on entries being taken during the current month, slightly restricting & puzzling.

However, I'm just a newbie and must know my place.

Modesty forbids, 'M' :mute: but I do enjoy the crack, ie listening to the judge's critique and learning.....although I've been involved in photography, often before many of the judges were born.:old:
As messages upthread would indicate, I'm still learning.

David, the thing about the 'current month' rule is that it does add a bit of an extra challenge. I've not entered a photo for several months, but when I was more actively involved I found that it made me look for photo oportunties and think about when and where I might find or create a shot that complied with the current theme. I, like many keen togs, have thousands of photos archived and it would be fairly easy to dig out a decent one for any theme. In fact I've got a cracker that would fit the current theme perfectly, but it was taken years ago. Yes I have to admit it can be a bit annoying - particularly regarding the current them when so far, up here, it's rained for most of July!

Good morning @Dave W my friend no matter what the theme is ,there are always plenty of interpretations ,you could use the word Lazy or Hazy ,Summer or Days that's 4 ,if you really want to enter the monthly photo comp then the weather shouldn't dictate any of your choices,an empty tin can with a apt label on it would do:heehee:

                Hi, Dave
Yes, I do understand the rule, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it.
Unless I'm mistaken, it would be difficult to prove(unless it was patiently obvious)when exactly a shot was taken.

Anyway, my entries will be submitted on the basis that it's just a bit of fun, not to be taken too seriously.

Just to clear this up, my pictures from my flickr site "tigerburnie" are labelled with my actual name. Burnie is my nickname on here and amongst my friends and family.

Personally, I like the "monthly" aspect of the competition. Like many, I have 1000s of images on the PC, some of which fit the criteria perfectly (eg a beautiful shot of my home-town cathedral, taken with a red sunrise as a backdrop, on an early morning dog-walk). I was lucky enough to be going "home" during the month, but was totally unable to recreate that image. So, I had to find other shots instead.

What is helpful is that we know the title of the upcoming competitions well in advance. This gives us plenty of time to get our thinking-caps on, and also to check out potential locations.

To my mind, it's a little like a treasure hunt. You may well have a house/garage full of the things that you are looking for, but that's not the point!

...been thinking this over, whilst scrubbing down the patio furniture (you have to do something to take your mind off the task in hand!)

Ok, take last month's topic - your home town...

I'm from Hereford. What if I wasn't doing the 1000 mile round-trip to visit my mum? I certainly wouldn't do it (sorry guys!!) just for a photo or three.

So, I could either say "this month's title excludes me - I'm off to sulk by there!". Or, I could think of other ways of fulfilling the brief.
                        What is Hereford known for?
cattle - no chance, all Belgian Blues here!
Black and white timber buildings (Pembridge is oh so chocolate-boxy!) - again, no chance?
Having to think a little now!
Hops - yes, certainly as of 20 years ago, lots of the country's hop production was actually in Herefordshire, as well as the more familiar Kent and Worcestershire. Ok, I could run with that...
Apples and cider - now you are talking! Ok, may not be able to track down an actual bottle of Bulmers' best, but a glass in foreground, and a regular visitor in the background on the nut feeder - "glass of woodpecker?" Could get even sillier with that topic, but would need particular weather patterns!
Mappa Mundi? Well, a photo of a modern globe, artistically taken, with a corny title?

And that's before you start to get cryptic.
I got as far as a photo of a car manufacturer's logo, and the title "car recall" (get it:gaah:!), before deciding it was definitely time to stop!

So, you see, the monthly title makes you look, and think, sometimes far too far outside the box!
