      Always.:love30:

Well, since that is the personal view of a member it doesn't mean that the Competition is actually being managed that way.........it is just that, a the personal view of a member:dunno: In fact, I would have thought that it was obvious from past competitions that no bias or discrimination would be tolerated by Woo.

Since the competition is in the hands of a very fair, just, and wise member of Admin. i.e: Woo:love30: I think perhaps your examples of hypothetical bias and discrimination are, perhaps, a little extreme. GC tries to keep bias and discrimination to an absolute zero perhaps making your examples invalid.
Possibly just asking Woo directly on his interpretation might have been simpler.:dunno::coffee::snorky:

Maybe - but then that wouldn't have given the original poster a chance to reply and, I trust it still counts, that every members opinion matters :dunno: :coffee: :snorky:
Equally, it is a topic for which all entrants should have clarity; should it not? :noidea:
Hypothetical ... until and unless votes are preceded with such statements :dunno: ;) Does that mean it would be tolerated then? :dunno: In this instance, the example called into question is not hypothetical but factual.
It may well be the personal view, yet, it is a published view of a member ;) A view which openly discriminates against a number of entrants as those entries have been dismissed on the very basis of this bias. Had the poster not openly expressed that view, the subject may never have arisen. Nonetheless, it is open discrimination and, as such, clarity should, and needs to, be sought.

For the record, Our Mandy, I am not questioning Woo's interpretation - I have too much respect for him to do that; besides, Woo counts the votes, he doesn't question them. ;)
I *am* questioning if it is valid for entries to be dismissed on the grounds they are not "garden themed" and I *am* questioning how such blatant discrimination in the voting process can be fair and justified and go without any comment from either member or Admin!

Now, if you say it is fine and fair to post that certain calibre of entries have been dismissed from your thought process on the basis of something which has nothing to do with the rules just personal preferences ... that is fine ... I will happily do that

"M", just ask Woo what his interpretation of what subjects can be covered:doh::snorky:. This is not a thread for such "in depth, hypothetical" debates running into hundreds of words when Woo will give you his answer.

Interpret the months theme as widely & imaginatively as we can...

Good evening @"M" my friend the monthly photo Comp belongs to all the GC Members , woo just organises it because he really enjoys doing it,there is no specification that the entries must be garden related and there never has been to my knowledge. If there are any changes put forward by any member of any kind ,as in the past I just ask the members to get their opinions and if there is a majority then the change is implemented .

The member concerned was just explaining their reasons on how they decided on their final decision,as we all have our own criteria when it comes down to the voting

I hope this goes some way to answer your question and clears up any confusion for everyone and if asked I shall indeed make it clearer in the comp guidelines.;):blue thumb:

If I remember rightly Alana has pretty much always voted and entered pretty much always using those criteria.. She hadn't been around that much and could always could be, shall we say, outspoken in the comps, but nice enough though..

Comp has always been open to the entrants interpretation the theme..Unless specified in the Theme.. I think you are making it clear woo

                I agree.

You can pick which of you I agree with :heehee: as you are all welcome to your interpretation of what I have said

I stated, on the previous page, what type of criteria that I use when deciding and I think that it comes down to using any criteria you wish - whether verbalised or not. I just judge on how I feel about it and I tried to explain what it is that I decide on.

I quite often wonder how some people have made their choice as I sometimes think that what they have chosen would be near the bottom of my list. That's the fun on these competitions.

We all have our likes and dislikes and some of us dislike variegated plants and even forget-me-nots! :snorky:

As the person you're discussing I think it's only fair that I have my say.
As this is a Gardeners Corner my personal preference is to vote for images that have a hortic theme (however tenuous).
As Marley, rightly said I haven't been around much lately and I was surprised at the reaction to my voting choices. Surely it is down to the person voting to use their own judgement as to the clarity, appropriateness and composition of the images they are looking at.

@alana I hope I didn't offend you but I know you have always applied the Horti' theme and it was always that way..
It's always been open to the entrants own decision as how to interpret the theme which is why we get such a wide choice of themes and photos in our comps, so please don't be offended Alana as we are pleased to see you back again.. I myself had been away for a time too so the brilliant @wiseowl took up the challenge and has kept the comp going... THANK YOU WOO.:thumbsup:

No problem Marley I'm not offended:)
As a charity fundraiser I have the hide of a rhinoceros and the cheek of the devil.
I'm pleased the monthly competition is still going strong and attracting lots of entries. I'll continue to enter my images and enjoy seeing how others interpret the theme and smile at the snappy titles for their pictures.

Odd question, but do images submitted have to be taken with a camera/phone/iPad etc, or can they be from another method (as long as they are not tampered with in any way of course)?

Good evening @Fat Controller a very interesting and pertinent question my friend,I think the best answer that I can give you would it be possible to get an answer from all our members on their thoughts, what ever the majority decide will be added to the general guidelines in future Comps;):blue thumb:
