I agree with you, pete, did I just say that ... :D

I only put things on PB that I am putting up on GC (can you believe that that means I've posted some 2,200 photos on GC) ...

... the rest are kept in my "private collection".

I keep a lots of graphics on Photobucket because Picturetrail won't host them. I tend to tidy up from time to time, so I never have hundreds there, just the current ones that are linked to websites. All my photos are on my comp anyway in albums.

[IMG] Like allot of you I only use PB for my photos etc for GC..
I have accounts with Picasa , Image Cave for hosting & another for personal stuff as well . Otherwise, I also have an external hard drive for my photos only. I store them on there sorted in albums, I don't actually keep many on my PC at all really as I literally have thousands. For very special photos I will burn a CD & print them as well.. Well thank you all, i certainly got plenty of advice there. I have so far only used PB to post on here, other pics are on pc.

Can you copy pics onto CD or does it have to be a DVD? I've already lost one lot when my hard drive crashed so want to back them up.

    cheers

[IMG] Yes borrowers, you burn them to a CD. I have Nero on my pc for burning discs, but there are different ones about.. Use a good quality make cd as some of the cheaper ones do not keep the picture quality for long. ;) Good Luck, sounds like you are in for a busy day..! ;) :D

borrowers, Just a thought re the type of CD you use, the primary difference between a CD-R and a CD-RW is that a CD-R can be written in multiple sessions, but once its full, it cant be erased and rewritten. A CD-RW disc can be erased and written over again and again.

Another useful item for storage is a USB Flash Drive ..

    "Flash Drives"

I use these flash drives for backing up system files and photos also for any information I may need to take with me for use on a different computer.

    Hi Marley & Mona
Thanks for your advice. I'm not doing it today, just thinking ahead.

I have some CD-R's (that's what it says on the box  ). I suppose for photo's that i want to keep for ever a CD-R would be best, but for practising & general back up i suppose a CD-RW would be better. Would you both agree?

I don't know anything about USB Flash Drives - I just about know what USB means (actually i can't remember what the B stands for now [IMG] ). I'll have a look at your link Mona. I know my brother uses them but to him everything is easy & you're just supposed to know! Plus he is hundreds of miles away so can't call him round or anything.

Think i'm going to have to think about doing this & back up because i have 2 pcs now with no seperate back up. although nothing really important is on them it's still alot of information to lose.

I'll let you know how i get on. Will have to creep to hb a bit cos recently he got me the wireless stuff, just so i can be really lazy on my laptop, and now i'm always on about the garden
    stuff

USB stands for "Universal Serial Bus."

You simply plug the device into the port on your pc and viola! you have another hard disk to save to. Simple as that.

;) I use CD-R for photos borrowers then you can't accidentally wipe your photos..!!!! Get yourself a spindle of them when you go to the shops next. Most of the supermarkets sell them. Then when we have a rainy day you can burn a load off & get your photos on them..!! ;) :D USB= Universal Serial Bus.. It is the type of plug/port used.. ;) [IMG]

I use DVDs, 4.7Gb, because of the much larger avalable space, I found I was unable to fit all that many on a CD, 700Mb, plus you end up with loads of them cluttering the place up.
Discs are so cheap and easily avilable I find it pretty convenient.

Dont really know if the quality deteriorates over time as has been said, I suppose it does, most things do.

Pete, can you write over on DVD's like CD-RW's?

Marley, that sounds like a good idea. Will definately look into it.

    cheers

Yes borrowers you can get DVD re-writes, but I use them in the DVD player for the TV.
The ones I'm using for my pics are DVD-r, as I dont intend getting rid of them.

One thing you might need is a programme that writes DVDs.

Another added advantage is you can view them on your TV, although I'm not sure about the compatability of some of this stuff.
