I've always used this site from my phone. I could always upload pictures no problem - now it tells me constantly that the 'file is too big'

Why is this & why can't I now upload pictures?

My phone is the same its always been & its getting frustrating!

If I give you my email address, are you able to email me one of the photos (at full size) that won't upload so I can see if I can see what is going on?

Yes please! That would be great, as I haven't got a clue. The email would also be sent from my phone.

      Thank you!

Hmmmm.... Very odd! I have done nothing to those pictures at all and they upload fine.

I'll go and have a tinker under the bonnet and see if I can see anything - bear with me.

I've emailed you again, with a picture of what it says when I try to upload the 2 pictures I sent you. I would have put the picture on here - but it wouldn't let me upload it :snork:

OK - I have made some changes; whether they wil work or not remains to be seen.

Can you log out completely, clear your browser cache on your phone (sorry, no idea how you do this on an Apple phone) and then log back in and try to upload one of your images again.

What image was that for @wiseowl?

I think I have it sussed. There are two parameters that limit the photos being uploaded. The first is the size of the file which is limited to 1024kb (or 1.024mb), and the other is the resolution which is the number of pixels which is set to 800 x 600

The two photos that @Cannyfullpots emailed to me were:

            924kb
            1632 x 1224

            And
            1.06mb (so 1064kb)
            1224 x 1632

Now, I need to work out why it allowed me to upload them even though they are outwith the limits.

OK - we are getting somewhere. It appears that my browser, PC or GC servers are being clever when I upload photos as they are automatically resized to fit the site parameters. Those images above have been resized to 800 x 600 and are now less than 200kb

I've dug deeper - the images that you are trying to upload are too large, hence the site rejecting them. When I uploaded those same images, they were automatically resized (not sure if that was my end or GC end that did that, but I am currently thinking it is my end as everyone else appears to be struggling).

I am not sure if there is an image resizer available for Apple's OS? I am equally unsure about other browsers & PC's, as the one I am using is a fairly powerful bit of kit and I have loads of photo and media programs installed (so potentially, one of those might be having an impact).

I am going to bounce this post into the office for further discussion to see if we can't reach a suitable solution. I will also post some information more generally as I am aware that there are a lot of people now being affected by this.

Please bear with us everyone, we are at least making headway now. :dbgrtmb:

I use Paint to resize images to 800 x 600 pixels and despite being typically average only 200 KB, they sometimes still will not upload.

And when trying to re-upload an image that had previously successfully uploaded some time ago, I also had an error message.

But when the same sort of thing happened to me some time ago, and there were suggestions of 'clear you cookies', etc., etc., and they never worked, it was only a Xenforo update that sorted everything out.
