They are too close together so a good sort out would really improve them in the long run. I had the same problem in my new allotment I had no idea how long the strawberries had been planted for, the plants need renewing every 3 years or so anyway, so it's best to get stuck in and discard the older looking ones.

Thanks everyone that gives me confidence that I'm not going to do any harm ;) March it is! When you say carefully moving them how careful do I have to be? Lifting them with a garden fork and then sorting them? Or are we talk hand tools on my knees?

I'd lift them with a garden fork and use my hand to tease the plants apart, they are tough little things and will quickly recover and make new growth.

To give you an idea I recently bought some bare root strawberries, they came in the post and looked just like dead roots. I planted them last month and since then they have all recovered and started to sprout fresh leaves.

Just finished having a go at making some small paper pots for fast growing veg seeds and I think it's going to work wonders :)

I made paper pots out of brown paper a few years ago but I must have overwatered as they didn't hold up very well..

            I hope yours work great!

Well see how well these hold up, I think as long as I don't handle them too much and let them dry out a little before planting they should be fine

Will you be planting the paper pots when the seedlings are bit enough?
If so, there is a piece of advice Kristen once said: make sure the paper is below the soil line!

Ordered 10 bags of Alpaca Manure today :) sounds exotic but apparently it can go on fresh, no composting!

Yeah something to do with them having 3 stomachs? Bit like Cowes I suppose and then no weed seeds either apparently

Aah, bit like the last Mrs Zigs then :)

They produce poo in little pellets, so no taking chocolate covered raisins down the allotment just in case :heehee:
