Yes, thank you for that, bobj ... particularly like the F4 Phantom.

Gosh, remember when we used to go on holidays on things like the Dakota! I can vaguely remember crossing the Atlantic in a prop plane ... we had to refuel in Newfoundland ... after they had ploughed the snow off the runway so we could land ... and then re-plough so we could continue the journey.

Just the sort of collection I was looking for Bob.
Some good oldies there. [IMG] [IMG]

The one after the vampire is a meteor I think, the next one down looks like it could be a hawk, as used by the red arrows, although that is not one of them.
The spitfires one is a spitfire and a hurricane, then a spitfire with a tornado, thats a good one.

Then a mosquito followed by a catalina flying boat, then one of my old favourites the English electric lightning, something to be seen and heard.
The one after that looks a bit tricky, it could be a shackleton, just looks like there may be those contra-rotating props, if not then its a lanc.
To me that tail pipe looks like an F16 but I could well be wrong, the phantom was always a good one, along with the bucaneer and the A10 which is still wreaking havoc in the middle east.

    nice one Bob.

Great collection Bobj looks like Pete's nailed it,like you Pete I love the lightning a remarkable plane even by modern day standards, it was the first plane that could fly at +mach 2 and once was flown to 87,300ft its rate of climb was some 50,000 ft/min one pilot described the sensation of flying it as like being staddling a rocket, when it reached its ceiling it was said you could actualy se the curvature of the earth, what a machine.

And designed and builts so long ago Walnut.
I dont know if I'm right, but I belive it held the climb record for years until beaten by a totally stripped down F15.
The fifties and sixties were a very exciting time in the aircraft buisness, something we will never see again, I think.

Don't know about the stipped down f15 Pete but in the British Airways trials in April 1985, Concorde was offered as a target to NATO fighters including F-15s, F-16s, F-14s, Mirages, F-104s - but only Lightning XR749, flown by Mike Hale and described by him as "a very hot ship, even for a Lightning", managed to overtake Concorde on a stern conversion intercept. The death knell for the lightning was its limited range(900 miles)and its weaponry was limited.

I was listening to this last night and it made me think of this thread. I put it up last year and still find it as brilliant today as the first time I saw/heard it.

Make sure you don't cut it off before the very end.

    Hope you enjoy!

Glad you enjoyed it pete ... I've only recently learned you can click on the right hand bottom button and get it full screen on your PC [IMG] but would like to see it mega screen also ... awesome.

Too true ... might be a wee bit frightening though.

If I don't catch you later ... now's the time to wish you a Good New Year ... Bom Ano Novo. [IMG]

pete, before I shut down I have to say we just watched True Lies with Arnie ... which surprisingly we've never seen before. Brilliant ... especially the Harrier scenes ... loved them ... excellent ... what an aircraft and a half that is ... to be honest, didn't now they could manoeuvre that well. [IMG]
