I think by law, they have to make provision for allotments if more than a certain number apply..I think that number is ten but no doubt someone else will correct or confirm.

But in the meantime maybe see if you can ask a local resident, particularly if they have a greenhouse...maybe they can advise you..or your local garden centre maybe.

That's english legislation. Doesn't apply to Scotland. :(

I am the only one with a greenhouse in the area. There are about 30 gardens backing onto each other within my sight - not one greenhouse.

Local garden centre is B&Q - I don't trust them in there. 15 year old spotty oiks. All the old folk work in the wood dept.

I'm afraid the internet is my neighbour in that respect ;)

I am in the south and have tried several varieties outdoors and you will definitely have to go for a small fruit size, gardeners delight as mentioned here is the heaviest cropper, but even mine have only just started ripening which is very late this year, but no blight this year.

Here I will continue picking until Oct.

My Dad grows mine in a greenhouse and I pick them up in May and plant them out - so sharing his greenhouse. This year he did some "red alerts" - they were definitely early - but not heavy cropper - worth a go with a few of these? Sweet Million is another small one.

I always ripen the rest indoors - tried all sorts, bananas, dark drawers, but I just put them on the window sill that has some sun and they all ripen. In fact I left a pile in the kitchen to make green tom chutney and a lot started ripening before I had a chance to make it.
