Hmm... last autumn I bought over a thousand bulbs from Wilkinsons sale (paid almost £20 ) and on a sunny Saturday set to work with my then 7yrs old. In 5 minutes half of the neighbourhood kids were hanging on the fence, I solemnly stated that this kind of serious gardening is unfortunately unsuitable for persons under 16. After a lot of begging and crying I finally gave in and had 10 kids planting the bulbs (of course, after swearing "big bulbs go very deep, mid bulbs mid deep, small ones on top, I swear!")
As a result I was forced to take the role of a supervisor and to spend the day sitting on my fence, smoking and giving instructions to my local sweatshop workers.
(ok, they did get complimentary ice lollies) :)

We seem to be lacking in kids round here for some reason. When we first moved in there were loads of kids, but all my sons age which was great at the time as he had loads of mates and some older kids to look after them all. Problem now is they have all grown up (my son is nearly 16 now) so tricking them into doing anything is impossible!!

My son does have his moments though when he helps, but catching him on a good day is getting harder and harder. He has peaked at the 'kevin and perry' stage of grunting and dismissing everything and everybody.

Back on topic - how did you bulbs turn out ? Did you get a good display ?

I planted about 600 yesterday and have a few more to do yet (less than 100) but over 1000 is some serious planting !

"Thats the joys of 'parenthood' for you Aaron. Try doing housework with kids wrecking behind you! lol"

Spot on Sam, I will do a massive clean up the day the last one moves out-until then it's pointless.

I swear that when they all move out and get homes of their own, I am going to treat their homes (when i visit) like they treat this one, which will include wiping food on cushions, tucking sweet wrappers down the sides of the sofa and leaving my own marks in the toilet :hehe:
