The bench is beside my Wildlife pond, Loki, and while sitting there with a mug of Tea or glass of the Red Stuff the birds will fly in and out of the Ivy over my head and shoulders. So long as they don't bomb in my Tea or Red Stuff I'm happy. So Ivy gives shelter to the birds and insects which is fine by me.:coffee::snorky:

Ive got lots of ivy and even mile a minute, i don't regret it atm,

Ive cut the mile a minute right back this year i will loose it next year,

I have various climbers growing with it the dead branches are left and make idea supports for them, in a sense its doing me a good job creating a natural place for for my climbers to climb,

i wouldn't like to leave it unattended though :yikes:

Give it time, before you know it, it will be under your gutter spreading across your favourite bench......and providing a perfect home for the birdies :snorky:

I like ivy as well! :blue thumb: There's some growing over my fence from the house behind mine. I can see it from my kitchen window. I was thinking of hiding a bird box for a robin in it as it's nice and bushy. :snorky:

Has anyone got any views on 'ladies mantle' achemilla mollis? The plant of the year... back whenever it was...
It was a Chelsea favourite, lots of awards, ...
I wonder how much glyphosate has been used since?:rolleyespink:

I have to confess, Loki, that it lines both sides of my front garden path and has done so for years. For me it provides a lush green line softening the paving stones and the leaves look like they have diamonds on them when it has rained.
The only problem, for me, is that it does self seed so it needs keeping an eye on.:wallbanging::snorky:

Absolutely :snorky: that's why I love gardening sooooo much:thumbsup:
Can you imagine if everyone decided this year is going to be an alpine year, next year we will have a rose garden, year after we all need dwarf conifers!:gaah: It's our differences that make us gardeners, and as gardeners we embrace each other's ideas and knowledge, muddle them all up and come up with better ideas than we had and, therefore, better gardens :snorky:

That is a good place for it, I can imagine it looks great. I do love the raindrops on the leaves:) it is a gorgeous plant, but for me, where it's planted, it has to go:frown:
It will live on in the patio though, I can't get the bugger out of the slabs:doh::gaah:

Ladies mantle can look good in the right place teamed up with salvia nemorosa / nepetaand for softening a path, but it self seeds like crazy and a pain to dig out. I won't have it in my garden, I get little seedling popping up in the veg patch not a clue where they've come from .

I pulled some Ivy out today from a dry stone wall, it seem a good idea a couple of years ago. The leaves are quite large and looked out of proportion with the wall. I replanted some of it on the wire mesh fence behind the shed, nice evergreen fence soon :) and the birds and bee's will thank me for it.
