That's the point I'm making Armandii.
If it says "seeds of Italy," I'd steer clear and go for one bred for UK growing.

They can have leaves that look almost like potatoes at times, and the trusses dont always form quite so regularly as the more usual types.

Not sure but arn't a lot of them bush varieties, ? which would mean grown in a greenhouse up a cane and de-shooted, the plants keep stopping and running out of growing points.

Could be the cause of bad cropping.

Again, I agree with you, Pete. If the packet of tomato seeds say from Italy then I wouldn't buy them. I would say the division is 60% Cordons, 40% Bush, 10% Semi-determinate. There are potato leafed varieties and a lot of people don't expect that in a tomato and think somethings gone wrong! I've never had any problems with plum toms pollinating but sometimes ordinary cordons haven't been all that great. Rosada is a cordon, by the way.

    Hi jennylyn.

I have to agree with ARMANDII, Rosada are the best plum tomato I've tasted. Eaten raw, they're a bit dry, but when cooked, they are SO sweet and juicy, yum yum

    Cheers...Freddy.

WELL - just returned from the local ' we saw you coming' garden centre - but without Rosada.....there were only 6 seeds in a packet at a cost of £3.19 a packet - phew:DOH:! Not that I am 'stingy' but if i did not get good germination they would be expensive plants. So I bought some much cheaper & more seeds San Marzano and will make sure I do the pollination trick. :thumb:

    Rosada seeds £5.95 for 50 @ MolesSeeds (P&P F.O.C.).

P.S. If you think just over £3 is expensive for 6 seeds, I got some (another variety of tom) from The States a few years ago that was 5 seeds for $5.00 + Shipping!

    Hi again jennylyn.

Good luck with the San Marzano, although I should say that having tried those myself last year, I wasn't impressed, the flavour being very average, imo. But then, to each his own.

    Cheers...Freddy.

Scrungee has the answer JL. I would get Rosada and give it try if I were you. It is painful sometimes, and getting more so, to look at the price of seeds these days but sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and pay the man! I've had no problems with germination with regard to Rosada - 100% every time. Believe me the taste is really, really good and it crops very well. There are times in gardening when you just "splash out" for something and then wish you hadn't, but I'm guessing that you wouldn't regret "splashing out" just to see if you couldn't cure your plum tomato woes!
