Plumeria

This is an interesting thread although I don't grow them myself ...

 

I'm not surprised. It's been much too 'stop and start and stop again' for most tender plants. It was just 19C / 10C here yesterday Ridiculous for July! Will be 30C / 18C tomorrow but not for long. Up and down like a wh......um, like a yo-yo

 

Plumeria are a real challenge, Michael. Not so much growing them as getting them to flower well...

 

My big one lost a couple of leaves and the two bonsai lost most.

I think my pot is bigger than yours.

I have never fed them just watered but will feed this week.

There is no fear of cold nor rain here. Been 30+ for a while now and looks to continue. The big one was getting a bit of shade from the Pandorea so it has been moved to against a South facing wall.

 

If it's been shaded make sure it doesn't get burnt.

 

We had a few decent days last week but before that it's just been one day here and one day there, nothing sustained and night temperatures have been poor as well.
Into July now and still waiting for summer to start.

My Malta one is a Rubra. I don't know about the seeds from Amazon.de.

May explain the different leaves on the two.

It was only shaded for a couple of hours a day ... (left by the door) ...

 

Providing at least 6 hours of sunlight a day is a bit problematic at the moment.

 

I have an overabundance (at least 12 hours) ... I'll try to send you some.

 

Looking on with envy as the last and only time I tried to grow Plumeria from a cutting, nothing came of it. Presumably my draughty house didn't exactly help.

 

The trick I have found is to use gritty compost and don't water them, if you do they will rot.
Take about a month to root in summer.

 

I grew from cutting and seed. Took years and I finally had a flower - and it was unscented! I threw them out. Too tricky to overwinter

 

I don't have any trouble keeping them alive just barely frost-free over winter. The tricky part is getting them kick-started in spring so they put on enough leaves and growth to flower.
Love that Pandorea, @Victoria That's another one that doesn't flower very abundantly here, despite lashings of Miracle-Gro. I'm going to try starving them....

 

That was taken 10 May ... it has slowed down now with the advance of heat. It is 33,5c now at 2 o'clock. I am notorious for not feeding. Got some cheap liquid fertiliser from Leroy Merlin the other week for my four Brugmansias and 15 Hibiscus rosa-sinensis in pots!

 

I have given up with Plumerias now, lack of sunlight, tricky overwintering and RSM.
