Here's the one I got before last Christmas - coloured up nicely! That's the first time I managed to keep one going, let alone have red on it!

That's lovely, dendro. Have you noticed second time around the "petals" which are brachts as you know are smaller than when they are cultivated?

Funny, yours has come out "shocking pink" looking like mine does. K-G saw mine for the first time this year in "bloom" as they have never come here this time of the year before and both she and hubby were shocked and amazed by them in their natural habitat. The size and colour, and mine is small in comparison to some because I cut mine back.

A fantastic plant and I am honoured that I live where I can have one outside ... such a joy!

I was delighted when mine started to show signs of colouring up - and when the bracts became this glorious colour, it was amazing! I intend to pot it on in a month or so - any reason not to do that, folks?

I hope the two I was given this Christmas will grow as well as this one - so far so good, like with you, WF! I have some doubts about one, as the red bracts had been sprayed with glitter! I don't know how harmful that is, but I can't believe it does any good....

I have never had one before so i am following your advice..Mine allready had red leaves when i got it and they are still coming..I will just leave it and see what happens..I just water it when its dry and leave it to get on with it..To be honest it adds a bit of colour to the windowledge as all my other houseplants are just green..
Mine too needs a bigger pot but i suppose it may harm it to do it yet ?????????????

I'm absolutely gobsmacked - my poinsettia that is going well in its second year now, has flowered and has seed-pods!

I'm completely amazed - and delighted, of course! What do you reckon the chances are of me getting some viable seed from these? Presumably I'm best to leave them on the plant until they look shrivelled up and dryish? IF I get seed, I'll be happy to pass some on, if there are any takers......

Well, dendro ... you're amazed ???? I live with these wonderful plants and have NEVER seen a seed pod! Then again, we do cut ours back immediately after flowering. I still have one flowering stem left.

[IMG] [IMG] well done you ... I wonder how you'll fare with the Cestrums I'll be sending this week ... and lots of Cobaea ... ? [IMG]

Dendy, just a thought, I bet the seed pods are explosive ones.
So when they get very near ripe it might be a good idea to put a paper bag over them to catch the seed.

Thanks for that Pete! I did wonder, but then thought it unlikely, as the only ones I know that do that are in long pods..... I'll get the bags now! :D

Still just as beautiful, dearest, and it looks very healthy under your loving care. [IMG]

I have cut mine back to a metre (from three) and there is one shoot a metre tall that is still blooming which I'll soon remove as the new shoots are coming for this year ... like Bougainvillea they "bloom" (brachts not flowers) on new growth.

I'm honoured to be able to grow them in the ground outside.

I've just been pruning my long-lived one - it had lost almost all its green leaves, just had the red bracts and the seed pods. I've taken off the seed-pods and will leave them in the sun to dry out (unless someone tells me there's a better way, or there's no point....) and since a few new leaves have started, I'm seeing if I can re-juvenate it.

The other two I was given this Christmas (including the one that had been sprayed with gold  ) are doing beautifully too - so I may soon be overwhelmed by poinsettias! Help!!!!!
