Thing people forget about digital imaging. Unlike old photos where if an image was black, it was black. Now the details is there in full and, as Beefy says, can be revealed quite easily by adjusting colour, brightness or contrast. You can all do it on your computers.

The Police are not allowed to 'alter' an image to get a conviction. If it went to court, and you were to ask for the original photograph that was taken, the case would be thrown out if it was not clear.

With regards to Speed limits, too many are being lowered, as said above, especially on dual carriageways, there is a 'blackspot' locally, that has claimed 3 lives in 2 accidents, the speed limit is 70mph, but is on a straight section of road, and the cars have crashed into a turning on the left on the carriageway, and I cannot see any reason for 1 accident there, let alone 2.
It has leaked out that the last victim (who wasn't found for 4 hours after the accident), was an African chap who hadn't passed his UK driving licence (a driving instructor wrote into the local newspaper), and the accident before that, was a 17 year old, who obviously didn't have the experience.
The parents of the 17 year old are trying to get a large section of the A127 down to a 50 speed limit  .

I am not sure of the stats, but I have heard that a large percentage of 'fatal' accidents are by the inexperienced drivers OR Drunk drivers, it usually doesn't come down to 'speed kills' rather 'inexperience' or that they are 'intoxicated' in some way, whether drugs or drink. I will not drink at all, if I am going to drive, I do go over the speed limit (on dual carriageways and motorways, occasionally, even the RAC/AA have been lobbying for these limits to be raised.

The current Highway Codes ''stopping distances' have not been changed since the 'Ford Anglia', and it is that car which the stopping distances were based on (so I understand)!

In that time, tyre technology, brakes and car performances have come on in leaps and bounds, the only thing that is possibly the same as the Ford Anglia days is the 'Reaction time' to act on an obstacle.

Just to add ..... As the topic is 'Points on your license'

    I have 3, for a TS10, failing to stop at a red light :( .

I tell you this, as I asked for it to be taken to court, as I hadn't gone through a red light (it was actually Amber) .

The officers could not read a legal number plate (being parked right behind my car) , and the officers didn't even know the name of the road we were in (it was a main road, that is well known in the area) .

The bones of this is, I had an independent witness that confirmed what I had said, and the Police lied through their teeth to get a conviction. I had actually tripped both officers up on things they had said, and I believe the prosecuting solicitor thought they had lost the case (by the look on his face), and then it came back that I was guilty ....... £220 costs/fine + 3 points = all for being honest :(

British justice system, Don't get me started!!!
