That's interesting Zig. Its impossible to say how accurate it is because of course the EDL and the likes (and by 'the likes' I only mean groups that for whatever reason are slightly outcast from the mainstream) will paint a very biased picture.

The truth is, if I understand correctly, the EDL does have a significant proportion of very right wing and even violent members. Right or wrong, I can understand why the authorities might want to make it difficult for an EDL person to take control of a police force. Even if that police force was unbiased, it could be seen as otherwise, and the very last thing anyone needs is for one group or other to feel that they have been alienated even by the law, as that's when real trouble begins.

Oh, and I'm not shooting the messenger, or anyone else for that matter:) Everyone is entitled to their views, and the EDL, as a legal organisation, have as much right as anyone to put forward candidates for election.

Just as an aside but related note, it always bugs me that we never seem to hear from sensible people in the media. We seem to either have left wing beardies that think terrorists have human rights, or right wing fascists that think that just having an unusual name is enough to be harassed for. I wish we had a group in the middle ground who's central policy was something simple like "as long as you behave, you're alright by us":)

This is one of those rare occasions when I don't get your point, Ziggy:dunno: I'm no great admirer of the Police and the way it does and doesn't operate but I'm not a lover of an Extremist Group who are only short of a uniform and a thrust out hand salute to make them what they are. Also why would you post an article for another person who hadn't got the strength of their convictions to post themselves:scratch:
"Officials" trying to supress/hide information is not a new thing but, lets face it, to try to do so in this case would be a forlorn hope as the BNP would, and obviously have, be blaring it out in every method of communication they have. I would imagine the "suppression of information" was just a lack of co-operation with Mr Weston. The BNP are not known for their subtley in language and you can bet that the Police were called all the names under the Sun and the rest during the arrests and so forth. And the quote that
is laughable regarding the second part but possibly true regarding the first part. I don't think that, so far, the UK has become a country where political opposition [however extreme] would be sentenced to life imprisonment for their views, we can't even achieve that with alleged terrorists:snork:

I am really happy that John Prescott didn't get in though, what an idiot - he was only doing it for the money.

We got an Independent in Surrey and it looks like about 25% of other areas did so too. That's a good thing, time will tell if this experiment pays off.

Oh, you have to have some sympathy for John Prescott, JWK, as two Jaguars are expensive to run and an extra £70,000 a year easy money would have made his day. He'd have thought he was back in the Cabinet again. I watched his face when the results were being read out and he was an open book about how he felt.:heehee:

Wasn't it John Prescott that cracked someone in the mush for chucking an egg at him once?
