    Sam said,
I wouldn't leave my dog while I went to work what if there was an electrical fire or something else cropped up,dogs are social animals and be left on their own for long periods.

I had to leave our Tina at home when we rescued her because we had a mortgage and bills to pay so me giving up my full time job to dog sit was out of the question for the next umpteen years.I used to take her for a good walk up the local rec, every day hail rain or shine 365/366 days of the year and then as soon as we had finished our evening meal both me and Mr Kandy took her out again round our local country park where she had the run of the place.Often at weekends we used to take her up to Derbyshire where she would walk and run all day long. She enjoyed it and so did we.She was going to be destroyed,so us taking her on gave her nearly fifteen years of a very good life.:)

When we used to go away on holiday we had no choice but to take her out for walks on hot days, because we couldn't leave her locked in a caravan, which would have been a death like in a hot car but we always made sure we took plenty of fresh drinking water for her and she even had her own water dispencer that she used to drink out of.We also used to find those refillabel drinking troughs that they put out for cattle and she used to love standing in them cooling herself off.:D

Sometimes you just have to take a dog out on a hot day.:D

Like Kandy said, unfortunately you have to leave them to go to work when you have bills and mortgages to pay. Not ideal but as I only do part time hours they are not on their own all day everyday.

As for them being socialable animals - yes totally agree. Thats why we have 2 :) They keep each other company when they are on their own and we often come home and all theirs toys are scattered round the house where they have been playing tug/ball or something together :)

As for an electrical fire - yes thats always a possibility but as my other half is an electrician our house is very well tested! ..... but there is just as much risk of that as it happening at night while we are all asleep and then the fire alarm system failing. Doesnt stop us going to bed at night though :)

Back to the dogs in the car though - this could have been prevented.

We can all do what we can to limit dangers and it sometimes not be enough ..... this though should never have happened. Its pure comman sense - or a lack of it !

Is this the same humanity displayed by the officer who kicked his police dog to death (all in the line of duty, of course).

    ???????????????.
    I'll say no more.

What I would like to say is, that if you are devoted to an animal you would not put it into the situations that police dog handlers put their dogs.
The dogs are really just a tool to get the job done, a criminal with a large knife or gun can easily kill a dog, the dog is just the distraction while the humans hopefully overpower the criminal.

Crowd control is another very good use for dogs, and horses, for that matter.
I'm sure it should be stopped, an armoured land rover and a water cannon would be much better.

But then the police manage to kill quite a few people on the roads these days, in accidents, and get away with it.

So who cares about a couple of dogs???????????????:(

I just noticed that the RSPCA are on the case......... lets not hold our breath.

How any one can justify the police handlers actions is beyond me, yes the guy would never have chosen to cause harm to his dogs and was probably delayed inadvertently, however it is these sorts of circumstances that are the precise reason that dogs should NEVER be left in cars in hot weather.

Im afraid there really is no excuse here, same as with drink driving.... a simple choice.

I am so sadden by the title, don't even want to read the article. I would love to hang the humans responsible for this. So, I ask you all out there, what would you do. Your in a parking lot, and its a hot day, and a dog is in a car, windows up, what would you do? Dog panting.
Well folks I have and I will continue to stand by the car and call the police (in this case its a joke) but I do and have done that. And you know if all falls I would not put it past me to brake a window.
The last time I did it the police showed up quickly and broke into the car getting the dog out, and they had some water with them. And the owners showed up and were given a arrest warrant.

So again, I ask you, would you put action to this if you saw this is public?
