    Hiya *dim*

The world of Koi keeping really is quite high tec these days. Much more is now better understood, and catered for. Not sure about eggs, but I for one don't want them. Koi fry usually give disappointing results, hence the high price for 'decent' fish (culling process and all that).

    Cheers...Freddy.

Yep, but it doesn't tell the whole story.

There are also options on which bottom drain to use, each having merit. I've used one called a Spindrifter, which is an 'airated' version...here...Spindrifter Air Bottom Drains

The upside of this is that it helps to get rid of a LOT more 'rubbish', but the downside is that blanket weed COULD become entangled. Again, it's choices. BTW, I hope I'm not boring you :D

We are using Superfish Eco20000, which can be used submerged or as an inline pump in the filter house. They are much lower power than swimming pool pumps.

The bead filters have a by-pass kit to accommodate the pumps.

We have gone for non-airated bottom drains, and will use separate air stones into the pond. The drains we have used are only supplied by Avenue Fisheries and are fairly large with a hinged lid (reducing the risk the Koi will get the lid off).

Koi usually sporn into pond weed or into a suitable alternative. We dont want to encourage sporning as the fish are usually pretty poor compared to selected breeding by the breeders (and the culling/selection mentioned by Freddy).

        Hiya Gaz.

Sounds like you have it all pretty much sussed :thumb: I went for a Sequence pump, but that MIGHT have been a mistake. I guess you're aware that although they're great on the energy consumption, they don't have much 'oomph'. I am considering using the bypass kit, but it might be a bit awkward fitting it in, I don't have much space.

I've actually visited Avenue Fisheries, to pick up a fish that I saw online. Although not show winners, their fish are good value, imo. I've heard only good things about their drains, so you've probably made a good choice.

        Cheers...Freddy.

Should be finishing off the blocks this weekend. We got the return pipes installed last weekend, so it is all coming along!

LOL something like that Ziggy, will be 8000 gallons when filled. Our area will be on a hosepipe ban by then but we have spoken to the supplier who confirmed we are allowed to use a hose to fill (and a hose when mixing concrete too).

You are covered by Anglian water, so yes you can use a hose to fill a pond providing there are fish in it (Of course there are, and when its full you can take the tin of sardines out)
BUT you can't use a hose to clear all the mess you may make.

If anyone wants to check their area for what you can and cant do click here

We are supplied by Veolia rather than Anglia, and gave them a ring, wanted to be sure of what we were allowed to do. They were really helpful and were happy for us to fill it.

Hi Gaz, looks like a nice pond. I've had a couple in the past including an 8000 gallon like yourself. Any more work done ?
