Potato bargains and the credit crunch

    The old man was a gardener for most of his 92 years think he had a bit more experience than most.

    That is reaaly useful. A chap done at the allotment told me that I could cut seed potatoes in half, but didn't mention ash. Must went mouldy so it wa a false economy! Always looking for a way to increase yield :gnthb:

    Obviously can't remember myself, but during the war they used to slice seed potatoes to make them go further.
    I'd say for any tips on it, try looking up books on gardening from the 40s/early 50s (or ask an aged relative)

    I often find the older books carry loads of great, and often organic, tips that we've forgotten in modern times due to the abundance of easy-fix chemicals

    I worked along side my Grandad planting tons of spuds and if I as much as bruised one never mind cut one he would have kicked my backside! :D And as Dave and Pete say,I also don't think cutting them has any benefit to the crop.
