      Not too early, try to position them in strong light in a cool (10deg c) place. Ideally to get green 'buds' not shoots.Dont worry if tubers go green, protect from frost now and when emerging.

        The traditional day for planting them outside is 17th March so you are not chitting them too early!

          Good morning I am going to grow a first early "Red Duke Of York" this year in one of my raised beds and then I won't have to bend my back when I dig them up ;)it might bring some Butterflies and Bees in to my garden :heehee::smile:

                  Your chitting potatoes are looking good but you don't need to move them backwards and forwards as they need light and warmth to grow. They can be hardened off after a couple of weeks. But this process isn't necessary yet.

                    @Balc, fair comment -- but it's 100% dark in the garage when the door is closed; :) :smile:
                    I need to move the spuds in order to do more work making this planter, it's taking ages....

                          Rubbing off eyes means you will get less but bigger tubers. I don't do this as we like lots of small tubers for early potatoes. For maincrop it reduces the overall yield assuming you have unlimited growing space. For container growing with close spacing it will be worth doing.
