        Ok, thanks.
Does it make the potatoes have a vinegary taste or am I thinking of adding too much.

I've got citric acid crystals I assume they would work as well, or possibly just some lemon juice.

First time growing potatos. Based in the UK. I bought a bag of new earlies and have left them in a dark cool cupboard. Couple of questions.
          • They have started sending off small what shoots. Should I just leave them and when I'm ready to plant just put them in?
          • Should I take them out of the dark now and put them in a cool light area to encourage these sprouts to grow more?
          • Any other advice would be great.
          Thanks

You don’t say where you are in the UK from the point of view of when you will be able to plant the seed potatoes. You don’t want the sprouts to be too long so unless you live is a very mild area I would try and find somewhere fairly cold so as to slow down the sprouting but also somewhere that has plenty of light so the sprouts aren’t straggly. I have mine sitting in old egg trays to separate them.

Thanks. Based in the West Midlands. I will get them out into a cool light place. Thinking maybe plant them mid to late march outdoors or is this a bit early?

It depends on how the season goes. If you can either plant deep and or earth them up straight away. The main thing is, you don't want the young shoots exposed to frost so if there is a risk of frost leave it till later. If the ground is cold and wet like last year wait a while or plant into compost and cover with more compost, that's what no dig gardeners do anyway.

I start my earlies in an unheated greenhouse in early March. When frost is forecast I either earth them up or cover with fleece. Mine are in containers so I can shift them outdoors once all chance of frost has gone, that is late April here in Surrey.
