Depending on how it was treated, that could look like a really brilliant contemporary design. Count me in!

Just like my 30s semi, in fact. My town is full of them, row on row, identical, featureless. A contemporary prefab would at least have the virtue of being a brand-new novel kind of chicken coop.

Some of the prefabs featured on Grand designs have been fabulous. What about the Huf house in the forest? Spend a week sitting back watching the crack team of hunky German construction engineers zip through the job, and then move in.

Yes, i too have seen several programmes where these 'flat-pack' homes have been featured - they look good too, so much so that it's changed my view of them !

These ones seem to be made in Germany and Scandinavia, where these homes are popular, you consult with an architect on the design and it's made to your exact specifications, they were at the 'top-end' of the market but I would definately consider one.

If these programmes can show the various ways this type of home can be made and designed it can only be a positive move towards more affordable and more environmentally aware housing - not to mention breaking down some of the more negative images that these homes have received over the years.

My parents moved to a 1960s (?) prefab a while ago, it was pretty grim to me but it was their home and they were happy there. A few years ago the local authority relocated the residents and demolished all those properties .... the land is still lying wasted and unused to this day - makes a lot of people very angry

That is a brilliant Woo.. I had a friend who's parents were given one after the war.. I used to love going to her house as it was always warm & cosy.. This is was still the days of the open fires & Jack frost on the inside of your windows.! I thought it was wonderful as it was a bungalow & had a warm proper bathroom..!! Also the kitchen was so "modern" & "fitted"... :D Hers looked like this from the outside...
[IMG] & the kitchen in hers looked just like this how modern is that..?[IMG] It was awesome I thought as we lived in a huge rambling house that was freezing in Winter no matter how many fires you had... :help:

Today's prefabs have the same idea, with space saving & as eco friendly as possible, just as they did then.. Today's sadly though, are not that handsome from the outside either, but at least we have a choice of styles & shapes today.. :D

Cor Marley that,s posh, there,s even a Bread Bin and is that a fridge as well, reminds me of when I used to take the Brobat bottles back to get the penny on the returns, and even now I make sure that we have a full fruit bowl as only professional people had fruit bowls back then
,and we could only go out every other day as we had to share our shoes:WINK1::cool:

          alternative

You could have a modern Asbestos built Prefab like above
or take a room with an outside Cludgy . AND this was a MODERN ONE
