+1 for Butyl with one caveat.....don't plant bamboo anywhere near it! Bamboo shoots go through 2 layers of carpet and a good-quality liner like a knife through butter, as I found out last year  To be fair, it wouldn't surprise me if they went through fibreglass and concrete as well....

Well, I thought the bath was a good idea and I still think that, although I agree it may never look completely natural with its surrounding environment. However, I quite like the idea of the bath becoming a herb garden, so I still have need of a pond :)

Its your garden Luci do what you want with it, you don't have to please anyone but yourself :dbgrtmb:, theirs nothing wrong with the bath theirs nothing wrong with a liner theirs nothing wrong with a preformed liner its down to personal choice, if you listen to all of us you will have a large selection of water features and no garden left :heehee:.

There's advantages and disadvantages to all three. I was just interested in hearing what others have to say. I'm looking at a preformed pond on ebay, which sounds a bargain, but as I can't find it for sale anywhere else on the internet I have to wonder why

True its personal choice Luci :), another reason for me getting a preformed was £ i didn't want to spend lots of money and a good quality liner dose not come cheap, i sat and waited for something cheap turning up local to me,

Have a look through this link Luci theirs plenty of types new and used :).

With my bigger pond I used concrete with glass fibres and with the two smaller ones I bought round cattle troughs from a farmers' hardware place, complete with ballcocks, and ne're a bother.

It all depends how you do it, Redwing:dunno::snorky:. If you took a walk around my wildlife pond which was laid with a butyl liner with a 12 inch overlap all the way around you would never know that there was butyl there. I buried the liner into the bank soil and then after planting some marginal plants and letting Nature self seed plants within a year it was looking natural. Even the crates that I planted the marginals in have disappeared under the natural growth of plants, both bank and marginals, while the black of the bottom lining also disappeared under the water making it's 36 inch depth look even deeper.:snorky:

@ARMANDII , that comment was referring to the preformed liners and the pictures posted by wiseowl, not flexible or butyl liners.

Hi Redwing, my mistake:dunno::) I must admit I've never seen a natural looking preformed pond but it all comes down to peoples personal taste and styles of gardens.:snorky:

I'll have to dig around for the long shots, Freddy, I'm glad you like it.:love30::snorky: It looks natural as I've over planted it with Ferns, Flag Irises, Sedges, and other grasses on the banks, with all kinds of Marginals to soften the water edges.:snorky:

It's a cracking plant and gives those yellow Spathes which really stand out. It's about 24 years old [I think I bought it for around £1.50p as a tiny plant] , sitting in a large plastic crate by a natural stone [from Bala in Wales] waterfall which I use when the weather is really hot.

@luciusmaximus I could not agree more. Even if my taste in gardens is more on the formal side, that is, to my eyes at least, exactly the way a pond should look. @ARMANDII congratulations on a job well done.:thumbsup::thumbsup:
