Brighton is about 80 miles from here, but I think that is Preston Park.

Rich, can you not slightly lower the pond liner at the edge, then slide the liner of your gunnera hole under it, so that the hole liner is a couple of inches lower than the normal water level.
That way the water from the pond will keep the plant constantly wet.

That could be a bit of a problem, because I piled up some of the spoil from the pond around the edge thereby raising the edges and I didn't have to dig so deep. Therefore the edges slope away from the pond quite steeply.

The main reason for this thread is to see if anyone can identify a small version of gunnera that this may be. I don't want to waste time and money trying to get a plant to grow to 10 feet if it normally only gets to 2 feet.

My cunning plan is to fill in the top pond and plant it there, There is currently a planting gully around the margins of the top pond and I could reverse the design to have the shallows in the middle rather than the edges. Water is pumped up there constantly.
