We've mentioned "Talking Pictures" (Freeview Channel 81), as having some great films.
The other night they showed another, "Sapphire," a 1959 film starring Nigel Patrick, Yyvonne Mitchell and Michael Craig. It was a murder drama with some anti-racial predudice.

The print was excellent, it could have been filmed yesterday. The locations were the poorer parts of London. I remember it from my teens, some WW2 bomb damage still in evidence. There was a row of big Victorian slum terraces, possibly Camberwell in a terrible state featured, where West Indian immigrants lived. These properties probably change hands at over a million pounds now.

At the time we lived just beyond the southern end of the Northern Line tube. It was a common opinion back then that the south London suburbs became far less desireable places to live, the nearer you got up the line towards Waterloo. Probably the reverse is the case now.

A lot of well known actors were in the cast including a small part for Bernard Miles.
Others, like Fenella Fielding, Peter Vaughan, Susan Stranks, Philip Lowrie (Coronation Street's Dennis Tanner), Desmond Llewelyn ("Q" in the Bond films), were "uncredited" but are listed on IMDB.

But you can always spot something. The police visit a seedy basement club, a pianist and a tenor saxophonist are playing jazz. But the sound of the sax was an alto, (if you know saxophones you can tell the difference). Played I guess by alto saxophonist Johnny Dankworth, who was credited in the titles.

@Logan We watched Mrs Wilson and it reminded us very much of Strangers we watched the other week.Evidently the story is based on the real life story of Ruth Wilson’s who plays Alison Wilson Grandmother who had this done to her many years ago, hence the same surname.

We are also watching Death and Nightingales and find this good as well. Also watching Dynasties (Richard Attenborough) and was so glad that the camera crew scraped away the snow to make steps for those penguins trapped in the ravine. That is the sort of thing I would do:biggrin:

                  Hope you are keeping well:smile:

@Kandy yes I'm well thank you, how are you?

Yes watching both Mrs. Wilson and Death and Nightingales, very good.Haven't seen strangers. The bbc are struggling to do good dramas in the week.
We were going to watch Dynasties (nature programme) but hubby found out that it wasn't in 4k on iplayer. He's sorted it, still got to watch it. Heard about the penguins, that was really great of them.

@Logan I am ok Thanks apart from a bit of Arthitis and SAD but apart from hat I am fine

We thought Mrs Wilson was very good and I amazed at how he duped all those women and we don’t really know the half of what really happened in his life and probably never will:scratch:

Death and Nightingales was a struggle and with the ending not sure if they will do another series of it so will have to wait and see.Love watching Dynasties though,we both love the wildlife and nature programmes:smile:

Mr Kandy has been watching Made In Britain and until the other night I was half watching it each week but the latest episode came from the shoe factory where my dad worked all his life from the age of fourteen until he fell down with his stroke (had four years off for WW2) so all my shoes when I was growing up were hand made by him upstairs in the attic so what the team were doing brought back many memories for me:yay: They then moved on to the village where me and Mr Kandy lived for 21 years and where Kinky Boots was born so all in all a great programme which we have recorded to keep:biggrin:

Yes we're all getting older, we have a bit of arthritis and problems with our backs, but we live with it.:)

Mrs Wilson was very good, i liked the 3rd episode and your right, no one won't get to know the truth.

Death and Nightingales was good but it was the accent that i just managed to understand. Could have had the subtitles on but that just spoiles it.
I don't think that there will be another series.

Didn't watch Made in britain, but sure that it was great.

Last Sunday watched Care about a woman who had a massive stroke and how her 2 daughters sorted out her care.
Didn't think much of how they filmed it, it was in soft focus some of the time.
