@Logan I watch Call The Midwife although the story lines are corny it makes a pleasant change from all the violence that is on the TV at th moment and when I see those ladies in so much pain pushing out their little babies I realise that I am lucky not to have suffered that much pain in my life

We are currently watching Les Miserables, preferring this version to the musical one although never having read the book I am not sure how accurate it all is:biggrin:

We/I am also watching the Scott twins at six of an evening on Channel 26 (Buying & Selling) and we are recording the Farming Showdown programme on each afternoon on BBC1 I think it is at 3.45pm.So nice to see the amateur farmers preening their cattle, sheep and pigs ready for the shows and the meat, wine, honey, etc for selling at the farmers markets:smile:

@Kandy yes call the midwife is good and a change. I like the series better than the christmas specials. It used to be based on the book, but now they have to go with what's happened in real life.:)

Haven't watched any Les miserables and don't want to. Sometimes i feel that there's too many costume drama's,haven't seen Poldark.:)

I've watched housing programmes and they're alright.
Been watching Father Brown in the afternoons on BBC 1 monday to Friday. They're repeating the old ones next week.:)

It's not just the pain it's the force of the contractions that took me by surprise. Also the sudden need to push even though you're not thinking about it.

Has anyone been watching "Hospital?" It was on last night and is a fascinating insight into the way the consultants and surgeons have to "juggle" patients risk and bed finding with operating room availability and ICU places. It is not an easy watch but I have the utmost respect for the medical staff. I owe them a lot. :thanks:

Just watched my recording of From Scotland With Love. BBC4. A repeat, made in 2014

An hour and ten minutes of clips of films made between the turn of last century and the sixties.
"In no particular order." It showed life in Scotland with the topics covered demonstrating the change in working practices and social behaviour. Somee tough times for women, particularly before the war in the fishing industry.

@Jazmine oh yes. Awful how they are struggling to function the whole time-never any relief for them. I worked in a hospital in charge of financial planning and performance etc etc and it was a constant struggle day in day out to make it work....closing a ward to make savings but reality was that beds were needed...but cant afford the staff for a ward to be open and run at a safe level.

The fact is the hospitals are massively underfunded....people are living longer and need more care and there is not enough provision in communities/care homes. I just wish people wouldn’t blame it on “medical tourists”....I would have to analyse every cohort of patients as I was in charge of income and contracts etc and overseas patients had absolutely no material impact on the figures. These poor hospitals just dont have the money or enough staff.

                      :(

I've always been interested in Track Cycling, it's a sport at which this country excels.

The BBC coverage is very sparse. They only cover the big events and then we have to suffer Clare Balding, a woman, who knows nothing about any sport that doesn't involve something that has a leg at each of four corners, is on the information supplied her by people who do, or is on the auto-cue.

She also does Winter Sports, another event she knows nothing about. But there you go, it's the BBC and their obsession with "diversity." There's a whole department for it headed by Tunde Ogungbesan, (Head of Diversity, Inclusion and Succession). I'm all for diversity, but it seems on occasions, her job is to get more into programmes, regardless if it fits or not.

The National Championships are currently being held in Manchester. There's live streaming available on YouTube, with a voice-over commentary "aimed at adults." No flashy expensive hyped up introductory graphics. No highly paid pundits and no commentary pitched at a level that might hold the interest of people who know nothing about the sport and just happened to click on that channel at that moment.

Michael Portillo's travels by train through Canada, features some good scenery, interesting information and knowledgeable people. His stupid clothes choices, don't really bother me, but what does, is his (or the director's) insistance on him, "having a go at things."

I've the same complaint with many other programmes featuring a "celebrity presenter."

If there's "slate splitting" (or whatever) to be done. Let's see the slate splitter do it. I don't care whether the presenter can do it or not.

Yes I totally agree. I feel so bad about it all as I have needed hospital care quite a lot and I know sometimes I have had to wait for appointments but I never feel annoyed. I have nothing but admiration for the whole work team.

I sometimes watch Ambulance. Is that the one based out of Birmingham? I saw the New Year's one and was quite astounded at the number of them on duty and the number of calls. I was even more astounded that they had to queue for hours at ERs or go to other hospitals! One got priority due to the severity and went straight in ... and then the patient had to lie on a gurney in the corridor for an hour! :yikes::hate-shocked:
