New series in the Danish ‘Those Who Kill’ set called ‘Justice’ starts BBC4 tonight. The other series have been excellent (if you like that sort of thing).

Podcasts available on the BBC Sounds app:

"More or Less" - Podcast of a Radio 4 show. Tim Harford explains - and sometimes debunks - the numbers and statistics used in political debate, the news and everyday life. It's always interesting and often funny.

"Sliced Bread" - Another Radio 4 Show. Greg Foot investigates the so-called wonder products making bold claims. Are they the best thing since sliced bread, or marketing BS? There is also a related program "Toast" which is all about why products fail. There have been several series now so a lot of products have been covered. Anti-Slug measures was a recent one.

"Cautionary Tales" - Tim Harford again, anything with Tim is worth a listen. True stories about mistakes and what we should learn from them. I've just got into this and it's fascinating. Excellent for a listen whilst doing chores.

 

I just stick these in the listen thread, nobody's complained yet.

 

I’m hooked on everything about early humans and watched on Netflix “Unknown - Cave of Bones”. Amazing.

Lucan bbc2/iPlayer (was this week) and Wolf Hall next series, starts tomorrow

 

Yes, I just watched Lucan. A fascinating and well made documentary. I was itching for them to get a bit of DNA to analyse. So frustrating.

 

It was frustrating, but very understandable that the son lost the plot a bit and went rogue. Very well-crafted and I enjoyed the way the music led you through the surprising twists and turns. BBC radio 2 also had a series of programmes more on Lucan himself.

 

I was engrossed in Lucan. What a sympathetic, sensitive, personable character Neil was. Loved it at the end when he was asked something and said there would have to be series 2 ... and then smiled through his tears.

I do wonder how hard the police tried to find Lucan, despite appearances, and whether influence from wealthy interests called them off. With the brother moving to Africa so shortly after the murder and the children being taken there, you'd think that would be a pretty big lead. My guess is he got away (entitled people rarely commit suicide, as they tend to believe in their divine right to exist and do as they please) and probably lived into his 80s, but is dead now. Maybe that is info those in charge have, so this documentary got the green light, safe in the knowledge he cannot now be found and reveal anything showing the authorities were less than rigorous, if not actual colluders. (Like Saville ... and Fayed ... etc)

But this story wasn't about Lucan really. It was about Neil and Sandra, and what a long reach a careless, unnecessary act of murder can have. I hope Neil can let it rest and get on with his life. I'm glad he had a happy childhood and didn't know about his birth mother till his 40s. Had he been told at 7 or 8 when Sandra died, as his older brother (or possibly half-brother) Stephen was aged 11, that could have crushed him.

 

I liked the old blokes in the coffee shop who asked if they were coppers.

 

Just looked at the Wikipedia entry. I got the heebie jeebies just reading about what modern day cavers have to do to get to these places. Trying to imagine what prehistoric people had to do is beyond my imagination.

 

A bit like a real life version of Ghosts.
