Ah sorry, didn't read your post properly. None of the stems on my courgettes, cucs or pumpkin plant are splitting this year.

Aw no Scrungee...it probably sounds daft but could you wrap something loosely around the split stem....to keep the rain out incase it rots:dunno:

Oh that doesn't look good Scrungee, I've had them split in previous years but not at the base like that.

      Is #3 your last one?

I just searched last years Pumpkin Competition thread and around this day last July mine was looking very healthy and outgrowing it's space. This year it's barely moved since I planted it.

The length of my plant has now reached around 8-10ft and it has developed a few side shoots, it's also had 2 female flowers open and several male, I don't know whether any got pollinated so as soon as I get chance I will do it manually :snork:

Here is the "Beast" :snork: ; another female flower opened this morning along with a male at the same time so I pollinated it with some cotton buds. The flower actually has a rather lovely scent

I had to take the photo in 3 sections as its that big :hate-shocked:

Looks like my attempts of ensuring pollination were successful, the young pumpkin is already the size of a tennis ball. A few leaves are showing signs of yellowing though so I think it needs a good feed which it will get tomorrow...:)

Brilliant Bilbo:dbgrtmb:.....Mr L stood on the end of one of my plants yesterday and crushed it :catapult: but noticed a 'ping pong' ball sized fruit further back so it should be ok....
Think it was sabotage myself.....probably because i'm giving my pumpkins more attention than him:blue thumb:

Well done Bilbo. I noticed the sweet fragrance of pumpkin flowers last year. So far I've only had a couple of male flowers open and my plant has hardly grown. I'll be lucky to get a marble sized fruit this season.

My plant has finally decided to start growing strongly, but still no female flowers have appeared.
