Well I now have a second fruit on my pumpkin, one that was pollinated by 'nature', funny thing is although it is younger it's now overtaken the original one and is the size of a large grapefruit where as the original one's growth has slowed down.

The younger fruit is a lot closer to the base of the plant, so I'm thinking its getting more water and nutrients and quicker than the other which is near the end of the plant??

I'm thinking that at some point I may remove the original and let the plants 'energy' go in to the other fruit, but for now its still firm so I'll leave it alone for a bit..:)

I gave up on my pumkins some time ago and haven't bothered watering or even looking at them, but today when I went to replace them with some squash plants I saw that they'd picked up a bit and this was on one of them:

And the other plant has an unopened female flower on it.

Well....the bad news is that my original fruit has now withered away, so I've cut it off along with some of the excess growth on the plant. The good news is that the second fruit is swelling at an incredible rate, so fingers crossed for that one as it is my one and only fruit

Out of curiosity I've just been and measured my fast swelling pumpkin and its at 25 -26 inches around..., not bad considering a week ago it was the size of a tennis ball and 3/4 days ago the size of a large grapefruit...:hate-shocked::biggrin:

At last I've got a female flower opened, but all the males have cleared off, I reckon I've got a gay pumpkin plant. Can't see me getting anything this year now :(

My Courgettes have been wonderful this year, I switched to the variety 'Parthenon' some while ago and it doesn't need pollinating. It just flowers then the fruit appear, very straight-forward, no need for the birds or bees.

Next year I'll make sure I grow at least two Pumpkin plants so I have a better chance of males/females being around at the same time :)

I only had the 2 female flowers too where as there have been dozens of male flowers, still are even though I've now cut the plant back a bit to push its energy into the growing pumpkin

And I've got a 2nd one about half that size that appears to have been successfully pollinated. Early days yet for both of them though.
