Well after 5 days my baby pumpkin has rapidly increased in size to about the size of a large orange so i would say that pollination was successful :thumb:

I also took the plunge today to remove about 5-6ft of growth from the front of the plant (in front of the pumpkin) in order to try and re-direct most of the plants energy into swelling the pumpkin as quickly as possible as we're not approaching late summer..

It is noticeable that this 'giant' variety not only produces big pumpkins but also massive plants alround, leaves, stems (a good 3" thick in parts!!) and the pumpkin :thumb:

My second plant has only just started to produce female flowers, so I've done the same as you Bilbo, manually pollinated it. I said this before but worth repeating that the male flowers have an incredible scent, don't know if you have noticed. I don't know how big it will grow in the next few weeks, the night time temps are already dropping so I'm not hopefull of a big one at this late stage.

Hi John, yes I have noticed the scent, it's quite something..:thumb:

Also noticed that the nightime temperatures have been steadily falling over the last week, we've had dew in the morning and temperatures back down to 10 degrees here..

Was reading yesterday that in the usa, they grow French Beans up the Sweetcorn & then have Pumpkins underneath.

Here's mine; the one I manually pollinated, growing well, this one is hanging from the conifer hedge at the moment!!! :D

Something tells me I may have create a hammock or the like :D :thumb:

Also noticeable is how BIG the leaves have gone since I cut it back, they are HUGE, a couple are easily 3ft across!!

Here is my Pumpkin now getting bigger :D mine is a green one compared to others who have yellow ones, must be just a different kind i guess, i noticed it slowing down on growing in the last week or so not sure really how much they do grow over time i measured it from last friday to today and it's grown about an inch, if you see in picture two some of the leaves are going brown and curly should i cut these off to give more energy to the pumpkin? also i'm still getting flowers :)

Hi Flowerpot, your pumpkin looks like my 'halloween' one that has now finished and I have cut it from the plant after all the leaves withered away and got mildew.

My other plant from the 'giant' seed has one pumpkin on it that is swelling rapidly and is the yellow one, the leaves are huge and healthy; I have though cut it back and removed the side shoots to try and direct all the energy in to swelling the pumpkin. It is though still producing lots of flowers from where the leaves join the stem :thumb:
