Thoroughly enjoyed just catching up with this thread. Well done everyone. Look forward to seeing the final results of stage one of the competition and even more to seeing the illumination results of stage two too.

Cheers Moyra:dbgrtmb: Don't know how I got roped into this one ? Oh, thinking back, its because someone from Cockermouth sent me some seeds, knowing gardeners can't resist sowing something if they have the seed. Even if its a Pink Bunkadoo.:D

Like the "incident" with the left over Hemp seed from the fishing trip.

I'm out of the running folks.

My best pumpkin has a soft brown spot, can't see it getting any bigger or even lasting till Halloween :cry3:

All hopes pinned on my second plant:

But the leaves are dying off so it won't get much bigger:

Sorry to read about that John...what a shame after all the effort you have put in :cry3:. We have warm weather forecast now so hopefully your second 'kin will get large enough to carve. Good luck!

Ziggy, no need for a handicap in this fun event but thanks for the offer, it shows what a "good egg" you are. Now if there was ten bob up for grabs as prize money....I'd be clamouring for a handicap!! :loll:

        Steve...:)

Commiseration John, so soul destroying after achieving such a good weight. Hope you have a good back up coming on in this nice weather.

Hi peeps, sorry to hear of Bilbo and Johns Pumpkins, and they were growing well too, lets hope your other ones do better.

Mine stopped growing a few weeks ago but i've left it on the plant to ripen in the sun, it still measures 21 inch around and i haven't weighed it yet but its not going to be as big as all your Giant pumpkins mines only a little one.....

Here's a picture of how it's looking at the mo'.....

Like Steve said earlier, its just for fun, so we'll all show what we've got (if we've got anything left by then:DOH:)

I'm sure no one will object to a bought Pumpkin being used for the carving competition for those who still want to enter but their Pumpkin has gone prematurely pummy.:)

I'll never know just how little my pumpkin weighed as a slug ran off with what was left of it one night last week.

It's been a bad year for squashes as my 'halloween' variety pumpkin has only made it to about 8 ozs and out a dozen marrow plants only 2 had marrows on and and I'll be lucky if I get one of those over 40 lbs. Even my courgette plants have stopped producing.

That must have been a big slug Scrunge, sorry to hear about that:(

My plant has moved into the field at the back and is making a break for next doors garden too. There are 2 patches of wool & maggots that used to be sheep in the field behind:( Hope it wasn't the pumpkin that did for them.

Might be one of those killer pumpkins I've heard about - make sure you feed it enough.
