To elaborate: in veggie lasagna (as thin pieces in lieu courgettes, very yummy), curried parsnip soup, pumpkin chunks in the roastie veg tin with the potatoes, onions & rosemary, pumpkin jam, pumpkin marmalade, in chutney (in lieu marrow where used in recipes), and probably some more that I've forgotten about. Pumpkin wine is awful.

I assumed everyone eats their pumpkins. Mrs Scrungee doesn't let anything go to waste. The seeds go to the hens (always seemed to fiddly to eat oneself).

First female flower forming, to early for it to set though as the plants are not big enough, and we need to get rid of this winter weather we are having right now.

Put some sheeting up around mine to protect from the howling winds, just starting to get away now.

Got aphids on it, keep putting ladybirds on there but they don't like the hairyness of the plant.

I just planted a thrid and final plant into a builders dumpy bag of maturing horse manure...it may be a little fresh yet for growing in..but nothing ventured.

Really growing this one as a) Its a spare and b) to suppress weeds in this area.

I'm going to try and get 2 to set then remove the weakest leaving 1 per plant.

I bought 2 Pumpkin plants this spring from the garden centre i've never grown them before, now the weathers more warmer, i've planted them out in the garden, have noticed flowers appearing and 2 so far have opened up then seem to shrivel up and drop off, reading the past posts on this thread you mention pollinating the flowers and Males and Females, how do you know which are which i've not got a clue

Hi Flowerpot the female flowers will already have a small immature pumpkin at the rear of the flower about the size of a marble, the male flower will have nothing and they are usually more numerous. Ideally you need both flowers to open the same day and then you can either hope bees, pollen beetles etc fertilise the female flower and 'set' the pumpkin or you can do it manually..:thumb:
