Dave, I haven't got anything under mine, I've not grown pumpkins before but I grew marrows for years which are similar in growth, and the slugs never attack a growing fruit only ones that haven't set properly. I think the skin is too tough.

davidguy I used a nice flat piece of crock off a huge broken pot, tiles or something else porous will work fine.

I will be trying pumpkins again next year as this years doesn't look too happy. :(

Yep, Pete. Long time taking off but six growing fast now. Will have to decide which couple to keep before long or maybe I'll feed them all. :D

Well |I thought it would be a good idea to grow about three per plant and get some ordinary size ones, but it seems the plant likes to put all its energy into one, as now none of them seem to be growing. :(

I have a recipe from here for a pumpkin jam which is served in the "local" restaurants with goats cheese as a starter. If anyone would like it, I'll post it in the Recipe section.

An update on the pumpkins. Not nearly as big as last year and the marks on the skin were made by the hailstorm we had at the end of the heatwave.

    Don't think it'll be a prizewinner

This is the first time we have grown pumpkins, same goes for zucchinis, both green and yellow. With advice from several posts in gc all have done well. The two pumpkins we left on are slated for Halloween for the kids, the scooped out innards for bread and jam. Unfortunately we don't have a digi so can't send any photos.
