Now you've reminded me, I covered a fair few miles in the passenger footwell when I was little, and in the back of a van, and once ended up in the front of my mates dad's estate car when an emergency stop launching me from the boot area, over the seats and in to the front. We all laughed hysterically at this and never considered the danger for one second:)

A favourite of game of my mates and me when travelling in the back of my dad's van was to curl up into a little ball and just let the g-forces of cornering, braking and accelerating roll us about. In hindsight it probably did my dad's head in, I know it does my head in if I have something rolling about in the boot:)

Thanks all, you've made me feel much better about my upcoming road trip.

My Mother used to have a mini-pickup - 2 seats in the front, I don't suppose it had any seat belts back then. I used to stand between the two seats when she had a passenger; which is how I came to break my nose on the read view mirror when we had a crash (1963 or '64 I think)
