i'm lucky to get my membership paid for by the estate i work on. :dbgrtmb: it is useful as you can send plant samples to wisley for investigation (it used to be free if you had membership but i think you pay now). i've been to wisley but would love to visit the other rhs gardens unfortunatly i have no time to do this, to busy gardening :dbgrtmb: :dbgrtmb:

I was a member for quite a few years, but I found I was basically paying for the magazine, which was just being left in the poly wrapper each month.
I can get to Wisley in about an hour and a bit, (if the M25 is actually moving), I'm not sure how much entry is now, but I can always pay at the turnstiles.
I prefer Kew, its a bit longer to travel, but more interesting.

The Individual Membership is all you need, it lets you take one guest in with you. So only £49, which is still a lot of money, but it also gets you into other gardens for free, like Abbotsbury. I guess it's only worthwhile if you are near one of the main gardens.

The individual membership only allows one guest with you at just the 3 RHS GARDENS the other 140 gardens with free access are for the member only
      As I intimated earlier

It is brilliant IF you live down Sarf, infact more than brilliant,
Though if you live North of WATFORD it is pointless, apart from a magazine which you can buy at a news agent, though the cost of the magazine alone would cover membership costs for ONE member, other than that their is NO benefit to us up here

It would be cheaper to visit a famous or good garden locally, pay the train fare and admission, than £120 return ticket down Sarf for a half day then your hotel for the night to return home next day

In a nutshell IF you live near it is one of the best bargains on the Planet
otherwise no real point apart from bragging rights

      IMHO

Its not a bargain down sarf Jack, as not much changes, at Wisley, so one visit a year is all that I could muster, if that.
And its pretty expensive in the shop, gardencentre and cafeteria, god knows how much the restaurant charges.

There are northern gardens, but I dont think any in Scotland.

Yep I am joined last year at Harlow Carr if you joined on the day you got free entry to the garden with a guest and a discount on entry to Harrogate flower show which we were going to the next day of our stay, so was worth it, quite enjoying my mag each month and sent for my seeds, 20 packets for £12, which was a bargain, I do love growing plants from seed:happydance:, so for me I think its worth the money :dbgrtmb:

60p a packet of seeds Plus extortionate P&P on sale at Lidls for 39p

Really IF I could use the membership it would be good and ejoyable, but it is just not worth it up here other than to subsidise the rich who can access its full facilities

RHS members seed scheme / RHS Gardening

You can get Aunty to do this for you or if she isn't computer literate you could order on her behalf. I get my daughter to order 20 'free' seed packets but I tell her which ones (I want), plus I order 20 for me under my membership.

To be honest I think it's too late this year to apply, it's first come first served and they run out fast. The list was sent out in November I think, so I reckon there will be little left now. Also it's all flowers, trees, shrubs etc, no vegetables, I make notes as I wander around the garden of things I'd like to try. I've grown quite a lot of things from the free seed distribution over the years, it's a cheap (if somewhat lengthy) method of growing plants you fancy from the RHS garden

Used to be, but have just let it lapse.

I got a lot of free visits etc out of it at first, but in the end it was just a magazine subscription. The mag is good, but not worth the fee alone.
