I only grow the easy ones, but have had them for quite a few years now, Phalaenopsis.
I even get small plants develop on the flowering stems and use them for reproduction.

Thankyou both I have also had failures and lost many yrs gone by but still have photos so soem snwoy day shall post more photos.

But guys how long do you get out of cut flowers .

I rest my case give me an orchid any day or even cut orchids will last longer than normal cut flowers.

My winter project is to fill a garden album book with photos of my past and present Orchid photos.

Thanks Marley, they grow on the shelf at the back wall of the conservatory, no direct sunlight all year but very good light and a winter low of 10C over night.
They tend to stop blooming in the summer when it easily reaches 35C plus some days, but it just seems to make them "go for it" around now.
The plants are more than 5yrs old and the two pinkish ones are plantlets off an older plant that is still going strong after more than 15yrs.

Thanks ScotKat, I cant think of any orchid that is not worth growing, they all make a great show and many are fairly easy once you understand them.

Our cordinater at the locla community garden I do some volunteer time in has suggested I do my discovery award and photography is in some of the things you can do.

There is Bronze silver and gold it slike the Duke of Edinburgh but for the over 50's .

I am thinking of doing it mind you inmy 40s did allthe voluinteer work 10ys with Chest heart and stroke scotland .

I did abseil fundraiser and ladies driving challenge for them and collected a lot of money.

Done Red crfoss hand massage been ahospital meet and greeter companion.

And hospice volunteer in their garden.

But as have done that side this does not count its what you are involed in now.

So think orchid growing I shall do for the bronze challenge and our community garden silver.

And the real big challenge is a secret but a goal I need to be abel to acheive again.

So getting back to orchids who else grows and lets see everyones photos please.
