I am happy that a young ash tree I unearthed (bad place to grow where it sprung up) got taken from a recycling depot where I left it (with instructions/conditions). [IMG]

Nothing in particular, just enjoying one of those lovely afternoons out in the garden when all seems right with the world.

Pottering about weeding and planting on a pleasant, bright afternoon with the gentlest of breezes, the cricket on the radio and the sound of the hens contentedly clucking nearby, birdsong in the air and those lovely vibrant spring colours all around. It doesn't get much better really. :)

              I'm really pleased with this.

Last year we lost a good friend and neighbour when the lady next door passed away.
We'd been neighbours for the past 27 years and had enjoyed many chats over the fence on gardening matters as well as swapping plants and seeds etc., as gardeners do.

When she became too unwell to look after the garden, we would pop round to cut the grass, put the bins out and help out in other small ways where we could.

During one of our chats, she kindly said that if there was anything in her garden I particularly liked, I could take it as a token of our friendship over the years.

After she passed away, the house stood empty for a few months, during which time her family were happy for me to pop round from time to time to mow the grass and stop things getting too overgrown. It was while having one last, rather melancholy wander round the garden late last autumn, just before the sale of the house went through, that I spotted a small blue pot sitting forgotten in a corner at the back of the house.

It hadn't been watered for months, was full of weeds and contained a small, stunted rose which looked virtually dead. I remembered this rose being mentioned occasionally in our garden chats and so, more in hope than expectation, I took it home, trimmed off all the dead growth, removed all the weeds, re-potted it and left it in the greenhouse to overwinter.

Come the spring I was delighted when it showed signs of new growth and so it was brought out of the greenhouse in due course and is now flourishing outside, taking pride of place in front of the summerhouse.

This is how it looks today. :)
