Thanks XT, it just doesn't seem user friendly or obvious to a newcomer stuck up there.:dunno: :snork:

Just reporting that: it took 12 seconds for the checkboard artefact to clear just now (when I scrolled down to read the messages in the thread)

I'm on Chrome. I'll try IE later. Most probably related to background processing my machine is doing, so if you can set a bit of a background load to simulate some delays in JS or Java you might see it ... perhaps :)

Noticed a new feature (I think? Not seen before :) that if you try to close a TAB / Window in which you have started composing a message / reply then you get a "Are you sure you want to lose all your work" type message. Neat :)

However, I got that on a page where I didn't have anything pending. I think it was after REPORTing a post. I'll try a test report on this message and see what happens

EDIT: No, that worked so that's not it. Perhaps some AJAX had not finished and it was a one-off. I'll report back if it happens again / often.

I've had a rethink about the things I would rather not have available. To add to the removal of 'Spelling' and 'Dumb' I would also like to see 'Dislike' removed. Originally I thought that it was a good feature but I now realise that it can too easily be misinterpreted to sound offensive. To obviate that possibility it would be best to remove it. I can always disagree with someone's post by actually saying so - with a reason to justify my disagreement.

If a lot of people would still prefer to have it left in, I suggest it be renamed 'Disagree' - but it would be more friendly not to have it at all.

Posting has now speeded up considerably. My last few posts have loaded in about 1 second. Earlier today they were taking up to 15 seconds.

Thanks, Kristen :dbgrtmb: Then we should definitely do away with the 'Dislike' button.

If our Mr Tech, Richard, did manage to reboot the server earlier then that probably confirms his suspicion that there is a memory leak (no irony intended to your good self of course :heehee:)

Although ... its the opposite of "Like"

Quite a lot of sites have "999 People <ThumbsUp> this, and 666 people <ThumbsDown> it" which is helpful in think.

But I agree the word "Dislike" is harsh, taken in isolation. Maybe Disagree fullfils the need.

I prefer the old "Like", because of its nice abridged list of the Likers (for reasons as explained in an earlier post). So perhaps both Like and Dislike could go from the Icon strip, and leave Agree/Disagree. Not sure which of the remainder contribute anything (i.e. if they are not pro-actively used then they might as well not be there), and some of them (Bad speller, Dumb, etc.) are bound to be perceived as being offensive, even if not intended that way by the O/P.

Leave them in for a while and see how often they are used perhaps?

I guess the "dislike" button would be used for a post that was offensive in some way although other forums just have a "report bad post" option which is much clearer, I think.

What is the "old" button for?? Would I qualify?

"Dumb" would be just plain rude.
