Thank Longk but Penstemon are pretty iffy in my area. The likes of the rather boring small flowered ones like Sour Grapes do ok but anything which is showy struggles unfortunately. That said I do like the look of Electric Blue so might try again with that 1.

Not one I have (Begging Bowl at full arm's length again I'm afraid!)

Trouble is plants from you is a one-way-street, you never get anything in return from me, so we need a better arrangement. Open to ideas, either that or you can give me a value and a preferred charity - or I could put it in Shiney's fund perhaps?

    I'd really like S.discolor too ...

    I'm depressed now ... :heehee:

I have a spare rooted cutting of S. Amistad

, from a parent which came from @Jenny namaste . Definitely my favourite

I find that the seed sown Salvias don't get tall enough, in one season, for my liking, so my preference is for cultivars / cuttings. But most of mine come in for the Winter, so may not be to your liking (although my issue here, on clay, is more "cold AND wet" rather than just Cold

Got a spare cutting of that too (sounds like its no good to you though).

This is a long shot, silu, but would Hibiscus syriacus 'Bluebird' fit the bill? It is late-flowering! One other suggestion....plant a bone hardy but boring evergreen and grow one or two easy clematis like Blue Angel, Jackmanii, Betty Corning and Etoile Violette through it.

I'll have a poke around when it's back in growth. Should be some root runners in there somewhere.

        Watchya got!

If I could get cuttings to take I would share. It continues to elude me:dunno:

        I'm plain jealous of them!

Tricky. Shame as I have a few good cold hardy ones coming along.

I have a caryopteris 'heavenly blue' in my Yorkshire, clay soil, not loads of sun garden and I love it. Each winter I think it has died and each spring it revives itself. I like the foliage as much as the late summer blue flowers.
