I know they say 'spring is in the air' but it doesn't seem to matter whether it's Spring,Summer,Autumn or Winter for the Stoggies:whistle::phew:

I do this early in the season, but for someone with a lot of Lilies I don't find it practical after that:

Time. Slow job, although getting in and amongst the plants draws my attention to other things. But I don't need that feedback "every day"!

Collateral damage. Some leaves, in the centre rosette, get damaged getting the beetles out. And later in the season, as the beds get more congested, getting in there to sort the Lilies out damages other plants. More so the more often I go in there ...

Missing some - those then carry on eating of course - and mating :(. Some escape detection, but if I fail to grasp one and it falls off, or into a lower leaf, it will do a "roll on its back camouflage" trick and then I am likely to miss it, or spend more time trying to find it.

      Indeed :(

Provardo every fortnight (or thereabouts, its only when I see them start to reappear / new holes appearing that I re-apply the chemical). I stop a couple of weeks before they flower (so the bees visiting the flowers will be OK), and then resume after flowering if there is a further attack (doesn't seem to happen every year, so perhaps depends on whether the Spring weather suited their breeding?).

I live in the country, so I don't have a whole street-full of gardens where Lily beetle is being bred but not controlled :( so I figure if I get good control here, and none/few breed/overwinter then I get fewer next year - maybe few enough that manual control is sufficient. In theory anyway!

One of my neighbours was like that, he had a huge pot full to bursting with lilies, while mine were being decimated, I now have mine in the back garden, no lily beetles, also his pot looks like it`s suffering badly this year. :dbgrtmb:

I agree that manual control s enough, but it needs to be carried out consistently and started early so the beetles can't lay many eggs and if they do, the larva are destroyed before they can do too much damaged.
Some one suggested cupping their hand underneath to avoid the dropping-off problem. Why didn't I think of that??

I too pick mine off every day or two and I've not seen any for over a week now. In spring I repot mine and kill the grubs I find in the soil too.
