I understand you can't take anything with you after you die. That's why my parents decided to buy a new kitchen after they retired instead of "using up" the old one. So instead of raising the houses value shortly before they die, they wanted to experience the joy of a new kitchen for the years to come and not be bothered with wobbly cabinets and old electrical devices. THIS I can understand. Same with a bathroom fit for the elderly. But tearing out a kitchen because you got sick of it after less than 5 years sounds like pure decadence.
