That plant is not an Epiphyllum ; as you say most likely the broken stock plant (usually Hylocereus) , having the unfortunate lot in life to bear one of those hideous red Gymnocalycium grafts so commonly seen in G/Cs ; chlorophyll-less mutants .
The grafts normally become top-heavy after a few years and break off anyway .

Gail 68 That red flowering beauty is Parodia lauii . Bear in mind that cultivated plants often bear no resemblance to their 'wild' cousins , apart from the flowers and seeds that is .

Thank you Snorky. It all started with me not wanting to cut grass. Amazing what motivates people, eh?

            Hi @longk .
If its the one I'm thinking of it's not that interesting.
It's one of those giant aloes that take yer greenhouse over and never flower in a pot.
Dont know the name, sorry, but I think someone on here did ID it for me a long time ago.
Think it might have been @Sirius .

Aloe variegata , or Partridge Breasted Aloe or Tiger Aloe (best keep with botanical names)!!:)
Mine has flowered in a pot ; blandish coral pink and white typical Aloe flowers @ 10" high .
Easily propagated by stem offsets , sort of a typical suburban windowsill plant .Don't mean to sound offensive , but there are much better Aloes to cultivate , 'excluding' the ubiquitous Aloe vera which is apparently attempting a world takeover :frown: !
              !

I take it @PaulB3 you are referring to Snorky's picture which does contain an Aloe variegata.
I was answering Longk's question about the one in my picture.

Whatever!! Apologies to Pete needed here as I misread the post ; probably Sansevieria cylindrica or something similar .
I'm not a plant snob , just a bit pedantic sometimes . Any plant that gives enjoyment in growing........then why not ?:psnp:
