After looking at your photos, I have just realised that my succulent "dead man's fingers" is a stapelia [IMG] Now I've just got to get it to flower.

Hornbean, and Dave thanks for the info, they are pretty easy from seed Hornbeam, and can flower the second year. I think it might be a bit late for cuttings now, but I might have a plant or two around, if your really interested.
I put the plants outside when the seed pods split, as they open up with masses of white silky threads, similar to dandelions but much denser, and fill the greenhouse, a bit later you get self sown seedlings everywhere.
I've heard the name "dead mans fingers" when refering to suculents, but I cant for the life of me remember the proper name. [IMG]

My son took this picture of a raffalesia in Borneo.

I took this dracunculus vulgaris in my garden in June. Wow it pongs.

Does anyone know what to do with the seeds? I planted two pots last autumn with free draining sandy compost, one in the greenhouse and left one in the garden, nothing happened though.

[IMG] This is the article I got the ID from HB. As we saw them when over there. They were protected but you could see them.. [IMG]

National experts in fungi identification recently visited the Brecon Beacons National Park in a search for rare and exciting species and found much more than they bargained for.

Thanks to the MoD, the intrepid fungi recorders visited the Sennybridge Ranges and FIBUA (the fake eastern European village) to the sound of gunfire and explosions. Other, quieter sites that turned up exciting finds included Libanus churchyard, Mynydd Du and the privately-owned Ffwrdgrech House.

The experts, from the British Mycological Society, recorded a wide range of species, including the nationally important pink waxcap, and some never before recorded in Wales. Many of the fungi found have wild and whacky names, such as the orange peel fungus, candle snuff fungus, golden spindles, scarlet caterpillarclub, fly agaric, amethyst deceiver and yes, you've guessed it .. dead man's fingers!!

Unknown orchid rescued from DIY Hell. Bought for a song in the summer as a shrivelled flowerless wreck. A little TLC and voila! It has a gorgeous vanilla scent too [IMG]

Beautiful colours, Hornbeam. I've not seen that colour before. Did you read the problem with mine (Cymbidium) and do you have any clues?

Hi LOL. Yes I did read it, but didn't answer because I don't really know. It is all too easy to over water orchids and I keep mine on the dry side with a daily misting. I also keep them out of the sun. However, your's seems to have suffered sudden collapse of the flowers and I would be inclined to have a look at the roots. Is there something nasty nibbling them or perhaps they have rotted through over watering or shrivelled from under watering. Hope you can save it

Many thanks for your thoughts. Mine is only in filtered (bamboo screen) morning sun. I do mist it occasionally but I fear I may have overwatered it. I think it will have to go into the recovery room!

Thats a good one Hornbeam, Its always much more satifying to bring on a half dead one, to flower.
And its one thing that most orchids seem good at, coming back from the dead.
