I am toying with the idea of having rhubarb - most likely up the back of the garden next to the loganberries - but I have absolutely no idea about varieties, where to get some or indeed how to plant and care for it?

You'm need an early one, timperley's first early, to start the season off, and maybe a Victoria to crop into the summer/autumn :spinning:

They like a lot of compost and respond well to lime and liquid feed.

Good bed will crop for 25 years or more :psnp:

The best rhubarb for me is Stockbridge Arrow.....vigorous, sweet and mid season
Rhubarb is greedy and thirsty so dig in plenty of compost, dried manure etc at planting time. Then a thick mulch once a year...autumn or spring.
Many consign rhubarb to a dark back corner but reasonable sunshine is important for sweet tasty produce so give it a decent spot in the garden.
Plant in autumn and dont pick from it until the second summer. Keep it well watered in dry spells and well fed....fish blood and bone applied in spring.
Most garden centres will have rhubarb ...even on line.
Rhubarb is delicious.....well worth the effort and patience fat controller :)

When is the best time to try and find them to plant then @Zigs? Can't say I have ever seen any for sale in a garden centre either, so is there a specialist grower or something?

Usually some in garden centres, but it'd be better if you could find someone with a clump to divide in the autumn, as bought ones will probably be grown from seed so would be a few years before you could pick.

Can dig you up a bit of mine if you want, unknown variety but its an early :)

Now that would be grand if you don't mind mate, if you have enough to be able to of course? I ain't fussed at varieties or names - if it grows and tastes good, it suits me fine. Come the time (I am assuming that this is the wrong time of year to divide anything), let me know what I owe you for it and postage etc?

I'll pot you a clump up then :)

Grew it from seed once, 50 seeds in a packet and every gloddam last one germinated

That is my kind of luck mate - sow a packet of something expecting half a dozen or so and get a hundred. Tomatoes seem to do it to me all the time

That would be great mate, thank you. Goes without saying, if you spot anything you need/want in my grow list at any point, just let me know.
