14 days to germinate this year, but sowing last year's seed (leftovers), so I might soak next year just to speed them up a bit ... I was getting nervous!

Mine have been VERY slow this year. Some came up quite quickly, like they normally do, but some have waited weeks before germinating. Very odd.

Used all mine up and was expecting close to 100% germination, as previous years, but so far probably only 75%

          Copied from http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/...rden-today-mk3-2013.48648/page-39#post-674290 on 28-Apr:

Disappointing germination on Ricinus (sown 02-Mar):

          R. New Zealand Purple 3 of 5 (Jungle Seeds)
          R. zanzibarensis 5 of 10 (Moles - last year's seed though)
          R. Blue Giant 0 of 5 (Jungle Seeds)

Those were not pre-soaked, so I soaked, for 24 hours, the remainder of the packets of all three last weekend and sowed them. Not sprouted yet, but will report back when they do.

          As of now I have:

          R. New Zealand Purple 3 of 5 Still 3 of 5 (Jungle Seeds)
          R. zanzibarensis 5 of 10 now 7 of 10 (Moles - last year's seed though)
          R. Blue Giant 0 of 5 - now 1 of 5 (Jungle Seeds)

          Second batch (pre-soaked) sown 01-Apr:

          R. New Zealand Purple 1 of 3
          R. zanzibarensis 2 of 5
          R. Blue Giant 4 of 5 Go Figure!

Only had about 50% germinate and they are very slow to get going, I've potted on but they have hardly moved in a fortnight. Maybe a spell indoors in the warm might help.

          Sorry Sal no spare seeds.

Yes, I've noticed that too. Normally by now struggling to contain them, and considering potting on to 1L ... mine are still looking quite small in their 9cm pots ...

I know its been a rubbish Spring, but since they germinated I would have thought they had had enough light  (and mine were under lights for a while too ...)

The one thing they have not had this year (space reasons) is bottom heat.

Sal, there are some ricinus Impalas in the seed parcel - you could ask Pamsdish nicely.

Mine are the same I only had 3 out of 6 germinate and still in 9cm pots not doing much, last year I think practically every one germinated.

I sowed some impalas about three weeks ago, 100% germination, still in 3.5in pots now in the cold frame, moving very slowly.
But to be honest I much prefer them to be hard grown until I plant them out, if they get big and leafy before planting usually the wind sets them back for a while and they look rubbish.
