    Well, thanks a bunch everyone for response, I'd posted once before about prun ing Robinia and got no replies from that so I decided to have a hissy fit. but explanation accepted. :-))
    As for humidity, I haven't found it a problem as yet, but the days have been very hot and dry.
    The area is at the side catching evening sun and does get very warm being narrow, but does catch the wind, hence my little windproof greenhouse, just a roll of spare plastic fencing about two feet high and I fastened some clear plastic bags [courtesy of the council] round it with clothes pegs, didn't cost a penny. To a Scot that can't be bad.
    My lettuce have done well heartening up and I have just sown a second batch. I have a small tom plant and a pepper, they're doing OK, and I can use slug pellets without worrying about wildlife, anyhow I've bragged enough, but if I get any more brilliant ideas I will let you know first before I take out a patent. LOL

    A tip I picked up from another site was to put car tyres around young courgette plants. The tyres shelter the plants from the wind and help keep the leaves of the ground and away from slugs. It's OK as long as you don't want your patch to look like a tyre dump :dh:

    I'll just take off the plastic and roll up the fencing stuff till I need it next year, it's 2" plastic mesh that's semi rigid you can cut it with scissors.

    Decided to re-read this thread, I've just taken it all apart now, had lots toms a few peppers, and a lot of cut and come again lettuce plus Little Gem I was quite pleased with the mini g/house, and I might patent it and then ask Blue Peter if they're interested in buying the idea {t.i.c}

    I've only spotted this, it has just come up on "new posts." It's a very good idea and inexpensive.

    Referring to an earlier post. This board is no different to many others, it can appear "clannish" but that's probably as on other boards, several people have contributing for a long time and will therefore "correspond" on a thread appearing to exclude others, but I'm sure it isn't their intention. It's not just this board it is any board.
    Some may also appear at times to be a bit rude to each other, but it's only because they know each other well and the other pasrty doesn't take offence.

    Some just like to "lurk and look" and if they've nothing positive to add they just keep quiet (yes I know! unlike me).

    By the way, "like Shakespeare", I never use "smilies." it's probably an "age" thing.

    As an observation, I'd say people are very well behaved on here, unlike others I've joined and left,that might be much of an "age" thing too. I've always said that; "some people cannot separate post from poster" on some boards. I never mind people disagreeing with my point of view, but that doesn't excuse them for getting "personal."

    On a technical note, I'm finding after logging on, I can't see "new posts" as that bar doesn't replace the one on the home page. I have to pick a section and then it appears.

    Many thanks for your supportive post, and I do apologise if I appeared a bit petty, but I felt the first two replies to my thread were a bit rude and uncalled for, I belong to various forums and hadn't encountered a response like that to an unknown and fairly new poster, but no worries the 'Blue Peter' contraption suited the purpose.
    Ironically when I went round to that patch of the garden to-day I discovered that where I'd taken out the last of the lettuce and taken a way the wire one of the neighbourhood cats had left me it's calling card scraping the contents of the gro bag onto the gravel, Have I no friends <sob>
