Hi Zig you know roses grow on you:heehee:

Please make sure that the Hips or petals are free from disease and fresh and have not been sprayed or dusted.Never use Rose leaves

Good morning all Right I will get typing,it will probably take me all day:phew: ;)

Please bear in mind that these following Rose recipes were written inside a moving (Romany or Romani)caravan or a vardo as it is known with a piece of Charcoal;)

    ROSE HIP JAM
Wash and tail the Rose hips, put in a pan with an equal amount of water and cook until tender for about 15 minutes.push the pulp through a fine strainer and to each cup add half a cup of sugar.Cook and stir until it thickens to a jam like consistency and then pour into sterilized jars and seal:)

Good afternoon all my friends yes Marley I have lots of spells and potions as well:heehee:

      Crystallised rose petals
Prepare a bowl of beaten egg whites and another bowl of granulated sugar,
Remove the petals from a dry bloom and using tweezers dip each one first into the frothy egg whites(avoid any excess on the petal) and then into the granulated sugar.
Dry the crystallised petals on a lined baking tray in the cupboard.you can store the petals in between layers of grease proof paper in an airtight tin(we never had any G/P paper)so we used a substitute and we never had tweezers just dirty hands:heehee:and we never stored them they were all eaten within the hour:)Enjoy my friends:)

Just tried to order the free booklet from the OU website, which accompanies this programme. Unfortunately, their order page doesn't seem to want to work :noidea: I've emailed them about it and now wait for a reply.

Has anyone else tried ordering one? Did you encounter any problems?

            Pot Pourri
Choose fragrant Roses when they are at their best, cut them off when they are dry,Spread a thin layer of petals on newspaper and put them in a warm dry room or cupboard, stir occasionally and when the petals are cornflake crisp after one or two weeks put them in a plastic bag,add the following to the bag.
1oz of dried orris root to fix the the scents
            Half a teaspoon of allspice
            Half a teaspoon of Cinnamon
A tiny drop of rose oil
Shake the bag thoroughly and leave the bag closed for about 3 weeks, then place the Pot Pourri in a container of your choice, this is the basic rose pot pourri,to vary the scent you can always add dried orange or lemon peel or leaves such as Geranium, mint or rosemary etc:)

Thanks for the feedback woo and mf ... must be that the site simply doesn't like me then :heehee: I've just tried again, but still it doesn't progress from the enter postcode page. Never mind; all things happen for a reason.

Rosehip syrup is nice with whisky when you've got a cold (+ any other time):

Very yummy, takes your mind right off your cold.

Much better with half a bottle of wisky.

Oh shiney, Auntie Ellen should learn the difference between whisky and whiskey ... there is no such thing as Scotch whiskey :heehee: Still, regardless, that does sound like a real winter cold basher :dbgrtmb:
