Rosa Mundi is my favourite rose at the moment. She's at her best now and just about to go over. That will be that then for another year. No repeats on these ancient medieval roses.

    Here's Hannah Gordon, she's a cracker:

    This is Rosa nozomi:

This is a variety whose name currently escapes me:

and this is Sharifa Asma - but not a good picture (or a good specimen - I've been having trouble with this variety). I think the rose, when happy, is exquisite, and has a good perfume to boot.

PS Lovely Rosa Mundi, Hornbeam. I only ever had a couple of them in a gaarden many years ago, never looked that good!

This is my last rose to come out. It is a lovely miniature that was bought 20 years ago for the children's miniature sink garden. We brought it with us when we moved house, planted it in the border and forgot it. With no pruning, it grew shrub sized, but the flowers stay miniature. No idea of its name.

The Sharifa asma is beautiful. David Austin says it doesn't like hot sun, is this your problem?

Hi Liz, well it might be sunshine this year, but the real culprit is soil alkalinity. The soil has been mulched with mushroom compost previously, and irrigated with increasingly alkaline mains water, and the roses suffer from terrible chlorosis. It is now so bad I am trialing other rose varieties to see if they cope better. The word from Austins when I asked was that that particular variety is not a strong grower and is not terribly tolerant of, well, just about anything other than perfect conditions. Pity as it is absolutely gorgeous.

My soil is neutral/ acid and i water with rainwater- I really like Sharife Asma and Hannah Gordon as well, I'm tempted! I have lovely deep soil, but well drained as I'm on a slope.

Give it a go. It is in my opinion the loveliest pink available, repeat flowering, and lightly but deliciously fragrant. It is prone to some black spot and rust, but when I planted them, for three years they grew well. Then they went downhill. It is sad for me but my conditions are just not good enough for them. :(

This is Just Joey, one of my 3 'sick' roses. It was put in last year and rarely has more than one flower on 2 spindly stems. It's such a lovely rose I would like to save it. It was planted in with the 'moss' roses, with Handel and Kiftsgate and none are thriving except the moss roses. Handel also has one flower but not quite open yet. Should I move them in Autumn?

This is Handel, a really pretty little climber with fairly small flowers. It is supposed to be really vigorous, but like Just Joey, it's struggling.

It has beautiful dark foliage and a good scent.
