    sorry another question.....

I was told put top soil first and the put seed but you are saying seed first and then top soil mixed with bonemeal....

    How this will work?

Ok ...... Topsoil 1st and seed on top ...... Birds will eat most of the seed... And will get blown about if dry

Seed 1st then topsoil and bonemeal mix ...... Seed will be protected .... Seed will germinate and won't dry out so quickly ... Roots will establish quicker ...... Just a fine covering of topsoil over the seeds ........................ Hope this helps you .. Will look messy for 10 days ... Worth the effort tho

    Hiya

100% wait ...unless you've got an oscillating sprinkler ..... This next week is going to be extremely hot .....!!!!!!unless you can keep the area watered sufficiently just sit out there and plan and enjoy

Hi Mane, with Doug 100% on his advice . I would hold off a large reseed while the weather is hot. But if you can hire , beg or borrow a lawn scarifier this would help . Also its a good idea to spike the lawn every 4" with a garden fork to reduce compaction and let a little air in . Just dig the fork in and lever it back so the turf just lifts a little - its hard work ! I would fill any hollows in with the top soil and level with a rake or a stiff yard brush. Then wait for some cooler wetter weather to reseed .
I can't believe we are wishing for wet weather now we have some decent sun !

What's caused that damage? Looks like compacted / poorly prepared soil before the lawn was made to me. If so just patching it up won't fix the underlying problem.

How long has the grass been down?

Will it be ok to work on my garden on Saturday. I live in Essex (Post Code SS16) and I think it will rain over the weekend.

or should I wait for another couple of days...

All depends what the forecast for the next couple of weeks is .... Think it's mainly hot and sunny.......not good news for lawns or gardeners I'm afraid ...
If your asking my opinion "........... Wait

Heavy rain forecast for East Anglia on Saturday. That could wash seed away (you run that risk at any time of course, but avoid if it is forecast :)

only other tangential thought is that many/most? spray-on chemicals (such as selective weedkillers) need a period of dry (often 6 hours, maybe 12 even) to do-their-stuff, so you need to pick a time, for those, when the weather will then remain dry.
