    :) Shiney
I have heard that spraying the flower with sugard water as apposed to plain water encourages bees...
    What have you heard/think?

    Hi roders,
I've also heard that but never tried it. I suppose you could experiment by trying sugared water on half the beans and plain water on the other half. Interesting! :)

*applauds the er... comic timing on the thread.*

    Would sugared water attract ants?

Melinda, the references are all well before your time. :hehe: :old:

Ants, in themselves tend not to be a problem on beans but, of course, they harvest aphids so that may be a possible problem. I would think that may not be a problem as the sugar may affect the aphids adversely . Some peole say that the sugared water helps the flowers adhere to the plant more and give the bean more chance to develope. Take your pick. :)

Of course, if you think that sugared water may attract the ants and hence the aphids you could try spraying it in your neighbour's garden instead :hehe:. Did I really say that?

Ziggy - I think you are wrong about comics. Newspapers are far better for lining trenches.

I'm the guardian of some wonderful bean plants, and there are times when I look in the mirror and think what a star bean grower I am. I sometimes wonder if I need to use telegraph poles instead of cane wigwams!
