Thank you ever so much guys, just from these comments i am looking forward to next year, when i can prepare to have lots and lots of healthy runner beans :D
I think it was the slugs that got to them , as the leaves do have holes in them, Is there anything to do , to prevent this or?
    Thanks again

Mine too have only just started producing, but they seem to be going at a hell of a rate! Shiney is right, about them being a little sticky to indicate whether they are ready or not. Another thing that tells me they're past their best, is if they're (forgive the pun:)) shiney, that is to say, if they have a glossy look about them. I tend to pick them before they're ready, as I generally get more than I need.

We had our first couple of runners lightly cooked in some fried rice the other day. The flavour was so much more intense than anything shop bought, and absolutely lovely.

I have two more big pods in the fridge, and several more smaller ones still growing outside. I also have some onions ready for harvest, and some courgettes. Not loads, but those and some herbs and (bought) toms, and that'll make a nice stir fry.
