Was watching a recording of Beechgrove last night. She was planting various shrubs and guess what, used B,F+B. Quite took me back to how we used to plant with organic matter in the planting hole, the the fertiliser! She called it a slow release fertiliser as well!!

      White Salvias
S.Alba (gregii) Has anyone grown it? Is small, 40cm, where did you get it from please?
Bought S. Patens with white flowers last summer. Kept them through the winter in the warm. They outside now but very slow.
Can anyone recommend any white Salvia variety?

Can anyone help with identification? Discovered a small vivid darker blue one with a white bee spot. Very small, flower about the size of a big trailing lobelia. The plant has small ovoid leaves which are quite smooth/shiny, about 3-4cm long. Plant nature is to be slightly trailing. Don't know about any small 30-40 cm high ones. Could be just because it's in a pot over Winter perhaps. Blue Note? Will know when others, 25 or so, coming from seed flower. Can't honestly remember where, in the garden, I collected the seed?! I am getting old! Got the gardener to search for a Blue Note anywhere in the garden. No flowers yet but similar leaves!
Have searched Internet so know that my plant is not what I'd labelled it! Fond some interesting places, including Victorian Salvias (was over an hour ago so could not be name specific!)

Hope I'm getting there as I've been reading up about it. Perhaps there needs to be a 'sticky' for it?? Perhaps there is one I just haven't seen yet!

There are places where the subject of posting pictures is explained, but I can't find any of them at the moment.
Are you using a phone or PC.

Thanks for posting. Either the computer or tablet which is easiest as I can photograph and write on forum.

Best if you have the pictures you want to post in a folder. One you can find easy.
I've never used a tablet but I would think that the procedure is similar.

This is a Salvia nemorosa "Blaukonigin" (Blue Queen) that I bought about a month ago from Morrisons as part of a 2 for three pounds deal. It has grown a lot in this pot, and it seems to have protected the violas (fingers crossed) from greenfly that have killed violas in other pots. I have found a few greenfly on this Salvia, but so far nothing overwhelming, easily wiped off, and they didn't seem to be the same kind of greenfly that were killing my violas.

It seems very healthy so far, though as a young plant most of its flowers are yet to open. It has a lot of smaller spikes on it.

re leggy Amistad; if it was in the ground and it snapped my gut feeling is that it needed more sun. In the ground they are generally very robust and quick to form woody growth. Another thought is poor root growth maybe as a result of heavy/moist soil.

re white Salvias; the only two that I have grown are a white form of S.microphylla and S.radula (both from seed from Robin Middleton).
The microphylla was good enough and hardy. S.radula behaved like a short lived perennial - good when it was there but then one spring without any good reason it was gone!

I'm tempted to agree with 'Blue Note' which is a prolific self seeder with a lax growth habit.

Cheers for your msges! The one I mentioned is now in the ground and trailing over rock edge. Some more flowers. Will show once I've got the way to send pics!
I've also got about 20 odd seedlings grown from last year's seeds, though we've lost the actual plant! So soon we'll know the flower colour and is growing style!
